Recipe for National Homebrew Day

Post by Beer-lord »

Though not etched in stone, I've working on my RyePA for NHD on May 2. I was thinking of doing a lager or IPL but I really have some ingredients that are getting near the old stage and want to use them up first over the next 2-3 brews.
I'm not 100% set with this recipe and may adjust the amounts of the 10 minute and whirlpool hops but it'll be something like this:

Looks good. I'm not familiar with Palisade hops. Time to go learn something new.

I've used them only a few times. Somewhat flora and better for aroma than bittering. It's a hop that some say is a bit too herbal but I've not noticed it. It almost reminds me a little of Amarillo.
That's the part of the recipe I might change.....how much and when to use Palisades.

Palisade isn't too herbal. Whoever says that's head would explode if they tried French hops.

Either way herbal, earthy, spicy, piney, citrusy - as far as I'm concerned all play nice with rye.

Still tweaking this and am not sure of the final recipe but I've changed the name from Rambo RyePA to Rectum RyePA......just because that's the direction my tweaking is going and I'm a sick puppy to boot!
My thoughts are just how much bittering there should be to match but not fight, the spicey tang of the rye. That's why I'm using some of the hops listed plus, I have these and need to use them before they get too old.
I'm thinking the only changes may be to the amounts of hops used with an increase in the whirlpool amounts.
