Sometimes It's Good To Perv

Post by BlackDuck »

My cream ale that I brewed this past Saturday is tucked nicely into my temp controlled fermentation fridge. It's got a blow-off tube connected that runs down into a half gallon jug. I went downstairs to the basement this morning to check on it and say good morning to my happy yeasties. I looked at the jug and thought....I know I put more water in there than that. Then I saw the bottom of the fridge had quite a large puddle. After wiping that up, it took me another 5 minutes to find that the jug had a very small hole in the bottom of it, slowly leaking the water out and into the bottom of the fridge. If I hadn't checked in on it, it could have completely leaked out and the airtight environment would have been compromised, and who knows what kind of nastiness could have found their way into my beer. I quickly replaced the container with another one so all is safe.

Just goes to show that it's always a good idea to perv. Crisis averted!!!

Nice save
"Filled with mingled cream and amber
I will drain that glass again.
Such hilarious visions clamber
Through the chambers of my brain
-- Quaintest thoughts -- Queerest fancies
Come to life and fade away;
Who cares how time advances?
I am drinking ale today."

Glad it didn't say it's good to BE a perv...

Agree - that's how I got a temp problem, by opening the door and looking. PERV POWER!

Nothing would have found a way into your beer, unless a rodent or ants crawled up your tube.

Beer infecting bacteria/yeast can't do that.

Between by SS fermenter and my Ale Pale, I do somewhat miss seeing what goes on so to replace the Ale Pale I'm going to see how the Big Mouth Bubbler works so I can perv away.

I was going to mention this as well but my previous reply was from my phone and I was on a plane about to take off so I had to shut down.
The worst you would have had was a mess from the blowoff but you wouldn't have to worry about germs/bacteria getting in.

IN any case, all's well that ends well.

I always "check on the baby" in the morning and when I get home from work. I like seeing whatever activity is taking place, and it gives me a chance to check on and notate the temperature, which is important when calculating the amount of priming sugar.

Checking isn't the same as Pervin'. As with Children, you just got to know what is going on.
