Memorial Day (weekend) plans

Post by Beer-lord »

First, I can't forget what Monday is really about so I'll just say I'm grateful and thankful for all who've served this country with the ultimate sacrifice. To those who've lost loved ones in service, I can only say from the heart, THANKS!

But, since many consider this weekend as a spring board to the summer, what are you planning?
Me and my 3 brothers are going to see RUSH tonite. I've seen them about a dozen or so times and this could be the last time so they'll be lots of us old guys there playing air guitar.
Sunday the family is having a small crawfish boil and Monday I'm planning on brewing a session beer. Gonna be a hot weekend as summer has been here for a few weeks already.

Ya'll enjoy yourselves!

My mom, sister, and niece are coming down to va to visit for the first time since they moved us in back in June of 2014. It will be nice to have some family around again. I like to think that besides the obvious celebrations to be had for our fallen veterans that holidays like this are best spent with family and remembering all the stupid things we did in our youth.... Like how I contributed to my sisters broken ankle :)

We're spending the weekend at the in-law's cottage as we begin (cue the deep echo voice) SUMMER CLEANOUT II - THE QUEST TO MAKE IT SALE-READY, so we can sell it next Spring if we need to. The essentials were packed up yesterday, 1/2 case of each of 10 brews, today I will load a cooler with pre-refrigerated bottles to last us this weekend. The youngest (who isn't going) will be loading them into the pickup later today.

Tomorrow hope to sell some of the many outboard engines in the boathouse as it should be a gorgeous 70 - 75 degree day, and spend the day going through stuff in the garage sorting into sell, scrap yard, and trash piles. Sunday looks ok for 1/2 the day, and the rest of the weekend looks like crap weather-wise.

Agreed. Thank you doesn't seem adequate but since it's the best we have in our language I'll use it, too. THANK YOU.

Sweet! I hope it goes well!

Saturday I am heading up to a couple of local breweries with friends:
Drake's. They don't get a lot of press but I think I've sent a bottle of one of their beers to Beer-lord. Maybe the Denogonizer? This time of year they release their session IPA (Alpha Session) and one of the best IPAs I've ever had, and it has a great name: Aroma Coma. :hammer:

Faction: I've not been here yet but this is the home of the Anomaly Milk Stout that looks like a Pale Ale. I'll try it because at least it doesn't look icky :p They are located on the bay on the grounds of an old Naval base so I hear the location is awesome.
They are also the place that has the new hop variety I posted about the other day (Jarrylo) and some interesting hop combos to test out in their pale ales.

No plans on Sunday, but on Monday I am brewing a very patriotic beer: I'll be doing my Levitation recipe which is an amber (red). I'm Caucasian (white). And my wife has been traveling a lot lately and is gone again until Tuesday and I'm missing her a lot (blue).

Did I not tell you about Denogonizer? If not, I sincerley apologize. That was a nice and dank beer. I'd love to hear how it was on draft. Over 9% I believe. BOOM! and thanks again with apologies for not sharing the details and pics. I'll have to see if I saved them anywhere and post (repost) in the beer review section.

As to your plans, well, the ending was just too cute.

SO RIGHT!^^^^^

We are heading out to the camper and will be cooking Sunday for 15-20, have Brisket, Ribs, Pork Butt and Cornish Hens giong on the smoker Sunday morning! Either taking growlers or kegs and jockey box for Session IPA (4.7%) from Big Brew 2015 I did and the LHBS challenge beer, English Special Amber Ale (4.5%). These are the lowest ABV beers I have done, but really turned out nice.

EVERYBODY STAY SAFE THIS WEEKEND!

This is a good call out. This forum seems to be full of people who respect beer and drink responsibly - let's keep it that way and ensure that we all keep an eye on others as well to ensure nobody drives after drinking.

I'm probably just taking kids to the pool for "opening day", going on a big hike with the dogs, and going to a true memorial service at the big local garden cemetery, because that's what it's all about... Otherwise staying away from mayhem.

Big plans yeah.

EDIT: And brewing a couple of batches of beer perhaps. Going to bottle my frankenbier shortly.

Brewing Saturday, smoked boston butt with the inlaws Sunday and possibly another brew Monday.
Very Good possibility the brew Monday doesn't happen.

Anyhow, please remember what the holiday is about! I enjoy the time off,
but my Dad was a 32 yr vet and it's hard to forget!

Be safe my friends!

My dad was killed in the service when I was 4 years old. For me Memorial day is a very special holiday.

I echo your sentiments completely, Paul. God bless those who gave the last full measure of devotion for their country.

My plan include working 13.5 hours Friday, and who knows how many hours on Saturday. I'll be kegging the Crown Top Pale Ale Saturday, or maybe Sunday morning, depending on how knackered I am from work on Saturday. Then Sunday is brew day. I'm making a Fat Tire Clone I found on BrewToad. I've made it before, and it's very good. I'll have to go out and buy three racks of ribs on Sunday, so I can prep them that evening. I'll be smoking the ribs Monday, and bringing them over to my parents' for an indoor picnic. I don't know how many other family members will be there, but it'll be nice to spend part of the day with Mom and Dad.
