Maybe I should forget about doing my two single hop APA batches and just use all of these hops in a duo hopped IPA

I was probably going to use them in a short boil Belgian or Saison anyways, so I dunno, I might single hop one and see. Short boil/all late might take away any harshness too. I dunno.

I'm drinking this:

40 IBU Wheat "Session IPA".

Which has Jarrylo hops. And some Simcoe. And some orange peel.

I honestly do not taste any Simcoe. I think it must have been used as a pure bittering hop. No pine here. My bet is that they used the simcoe as the bittering hop because the Jarrylo is about 37% co-humulone, so it might create a more harsh bitterness. Simcoe is very low co-humulone and very smooth bittering hop.

It has spicy/grassy German hop like flavors/aromas, sort of like a German Pils, but with orange and lemon and some banana, and some pepper. It's more like a wheat Saison then a wheat IPA. Gumballhead it is not.

I have no idea what citrus flavor is coming from the Jarrylo and what is coming from the orange peel. Which is unfortunate. I think the zesty aroma is from the peel. There is no grapefruit. Only orange and lemon. The orange zest lingers. I bet that is from the peel too. I am not getting any mint like Kealia did in the beer he tried. I wouldn't hate mint - I like perle and northern brewer and they are minty. But this doesn't taste like those hops at all.

It is *not* harsh. I have no desire to dump it like Kealia had to do. But it is weird if you are expecting anything at all like an "IPA". It is not.

It's not the favorite thing I've had from Great Lakes, but it would be good on a hot day.

So yeah, I'm pretty sure I'm using these in a Belgian or Saison. Or a WIT beer like thing. Or all 3 since I have 4 oz, and 1oz is enough for any 2.5 gallon batch of those things. I'd do any of those if single hopped as a short boil, to avoid any harshness. At almost 17% AA it's not going to need much of a boil with anything more then a miniscule amount of hops to bring plenty of bitterness to balance that kind of beer.

Its good to get another opinion and taste for sure. I'd be willing to try them again in another brew given what I said about galaxy before. As a single hopped beer I wonder if they just got out of control with the buttering charge.
What I do know is that out of the three of us that bought the bombers , three of us dumped them.
I'm going to assume poor execution on this one and reserve judgment on the hops for now. I don't mind a little mint like in NB but what I tasted here was a weird earthy mintiness that was very unpleasant.
