A dangerous pursuit, I know. But I'm enjoying my keezer so much! We all know it's much easier to keg than it is to bottle. And I'm currently enjoying how rich and creamy the head is on the Crown Top Pale Ale, and the elegant lacing on every glass.

But I rotate my batches between one fiver and two 2.5 rigs, and while I don't completely despise bottling one case instead of two, I've been thinking that I could really appreciate a small keg with just a picnic tap. I have a lager fridge downstairs, so when I'm not making lagers, I could easily keep a li'l keg in there. Or else have it in the keezer if there's an empty corny keg in the rotation.

I dunno. But it warrants further investigation.

I know Phil uses the 2.5 gal corn kegs and it seems to work out pretty well for him. I think it would be worth getting at least one to start with to see if it works for you. Then you will need to get a beer gun for when you want to bottle from the keg.

I love my 2.5 gal keg. I only wish I had a second mini fridge to keep my ready-to-drink beer in. Right now I only have the option of either using the mini fridge to ferment in or cold storage.

See I told you that if you started with picnic taps while waiting to buy good ones you would find uses for them later :D
Now once you get your picnic taps it wouldn't hurt to buy a second CO2 bottle and a 5 or 10 gallon cooler. Then you could take that 2.5 gallon keg outside, ice it down, and serve from it at rib fest.

2.5 gallon kegs work! Super easy bringing those to a party as well.

Yeah, I'll have to investigate it. The portability of a 2.5 gallon keg is a real plus.

My LHBS has small kegs in stock. About $65 each. They're pin locks, so I'd have to buy conversion kits, but that's no big deal. I just need to consider the cost of another CO2 tank, another regulator, and the other stuff I'd need, i.e. hoses, clamps, etc.

But I'm liking the idea. Definitely liking the idea....
