Beer is the answer

Post by LouieMacGoo »

I was in a meeting today and after about 45 minutes of going back and forth about a problem we were all trying to solve I was starting to feel a little punchy. Just as was about to zone out with everyone else who really didn't care much for how things were going some one said "I wish there was a simple solution?" to which quickly and loudly replied BEER! Everyone stopped, dead silent, I thought to myself, oh crap, then slowly people started to chuckle. Soon everyone was laughing pretty heartily. After a minute or so everyone settled down and we were able to quickly come up with a plan to resolve this urgent problem.

I don't know that the joke was really all that funny but it was just what we needed to break the tention and get us going in the right direction.

So, beer was actually the right answer for today!

Sounds like a reason to install a kegerator in the meeting room.

That's pretty funny Leigh. I know a guy is a graphic designer. They have built a small bar in a side room. No liquor, but 6 taps. At the end of the work day, they will sit around discussing life, work and other things. The owner just charges cost for the beer and will foot the bill if they do good on a project. He says morale is high in the office and almost no employee turn over. Gee, ya think.

A couple of years ago, my manager wanted to do some kind of "teamwork" outing. Thing is, the rest of us aren't all that into those kinds of things. We have families, a couple of us would have to actually drive quite a bit just to participate, and it's just not a big deal to us. We show up, we do our jobs, we go home.

But he kept pressing us on what we'd like to do, and I impulsively called out, "Hookers and blow!" The look on his face was priceless.

When the company I worked with was small 20+ years ago, we had pool table and beer in the loading dock (which was never used as we were an IT company). We would get our heads stuck, go in there shoot some pool, drink some beer, and solve our problems.

Then we got sold to a big insurance company. Who took away our beer. And then blew their budget for the next 5 years on sponsoring a college football bowl game, and then had to sell themselves to another bigger insurance company to cover their debt. And they had no idea we came along with it. Which lead to a whole bunch of other fun later.

But beer was the answer, until they took it away.

Those were the days.
