BeerBorg RCE

Post by D_Rabbit »

Not sure who remembers this because I think we did it on MRB forum but we all made the Chocolate Stout recipe based on all input of the Borg. I really enjoyed that recipe and have decided to make it again shortly in hopes to let it sit for a little while and age for Halloween time frame. I am modifying it a bit and decided to make it a mint chocolate stout by adding in mint leaves. Anyone do this?

I remember that thread on the old forum. I think I just cheated and did it the lazy way and made one out of 3 cans of the oatmeal stout and 1/4C of cocoa powder. (that actually tasted quite good if I recall).

But I've never added mint to beer. I think if I was going to do that, I'd soak mint leaves in vodka and make my own mint extract, and then add that to the fermenter after primary is over to preserve the aromatics, and/or add some at bottling time. I've done this with other herbs/spices... it works great...

You could also use Northern Brewer or Perle hops and get some minty flavors there too.
