Built a filter system today for my rig. It was a lot simpler than I anticipated and found a good thread for the parts on HBT. Here are a few pictures. Tried it out and it made quite the difference with taste. Tried it slow, medium, fast and off. Obviously I tasted the most chlorine at fast and off but I seemed to find a good spead around medium to slow where the water tasted really good with very little to no Chlorine taste.
In all it cost me about $56 to make. I think I will try it for a few batches and than eventually send off a sample to be tested by Wardlab.
Edited for Parts:
- You can get most of the parts off this thread on HBT which is where I did get a few of my parts.

Sweet setup. How long will it take to fill the keggle? There doesn't seem to be much coming out of the filter is why I ask.
Re: DIY Water Filter
It will most likely take 10-15 minutes for 9-10 gallons. It will fill between .5-.75 GPM. That is fine by me because it will allow me to get other stuff set up while waiting.

Wait now that is a whole house filter, why can't you run more than that out of it? Is it the actual filter media you are using in the canister? I use something familiar on the cold side of my second faucet in my kitchen.
Re: DIY Water Filter
I like to run it slower to make sure the chlorine taste is out. I found that the slower speed works well for me. Not in any rush on my brew days so an extra minute to fill the HLT doesn't bother me while I set up.

Right on, wasn't trying to insult. I am a plumber and was just curious. I am always in a hurry it seems like.
Re: DIY Water Filter
Gonna take more than a question to insult me! lol
I did do a speed test on it to see how fast I could fill it and not taste the chlorine and just found the slower speed to be better tasting. My first batch using this method is now on tap. It is a robust porter and it is tasting like it used to when I was using well water. Nice and roasty with a hint of chocolate. Even with new single tier stand I think the filter is probably my best addition to the whole set up.
