First Brew Tasting

Yes BrewDemon and Mr. Beer kits are pretty darn easy but sometime you need a little help from the Borg to get you on the right track. Post your questions here!

I'll say the same as others: Congrats on that first brew!

I use a hydrometer for FG and pour it back. I check FG at 18 days and drink it, then cold crash. I brew in LBKs.
I have over 9,000 posts on "another forum", which means absolutely nothing. Mr. Beer January 2014 Brewer of the Month with all the pomp and circumstance that comes with it...

Congrats on first brew. Looks great. Look at that head, man!

Ok, I waited another week and poured a second glass (2 weeks in bottle). The taste was certainly different, but the most noticeable change was the head. It was much thinner and dissipated very quickly. You can see from the previous pic (above) how thick it was on the first pour. Any ideas on what could be the cause? Could it have something to do with the amount of sugar added when bottling?

That is normal....check out this you tube video regarding carbonation at different time intervals. It's a pretty good description of what's going on:

Interesting vid, but this guy needs to learn how to pour a beer.

Thanks, BlackDuck. That was interesting and it is helpful with my first home brew to open a bottle at different times during the bottle conditioning period to see how it changes. I'll wait a week and open another one.

If the beer was warm on his beer won't that affect his carbonation? I can see where carbonation is weak on the first 2 - 3 weeks but if it was placed in the fridge for a day or 2 wouldn't it show more? Just my take on this vid.
