Looks like Ralph really knows what he's doing and he also seems to know what I like.
Hope you can find a cool day to brew....it's killer hot here.

It is supposed to cool into the upper 80s next week. I think I can live with that.

So I am weighing my grain and my mind wanders fot a second or two. When it comes back, I find myself wondering, was that 5 pounds or 6. I put another pound in which really fills my 7 pound hopper, still not sure, after crushing I throw 2 more pounds of 2 row in before adding my munich. I guess the hydrometer will tell the tale. This might be an imperial.

I have the 7 lb hopper and I'm sure mine holds less than 7 lbs. I think it's off by a pound or two.

Just noticed the lack of a 60 min hop addition. I've been meaning to give that a try. I'm assuming it's to keep the IBUs down while focusing on flavor and aroma?

Yes it is. You still get some bitterness but it's more "smooth and rounded" as the descriptions go. The late additions really focus on flavor and aroma and I find with the hopstand that they aroma and flavor seem to stay stable much longer. I think Gymrat will agree.

The IBUs in my IPAs are usually over 100. I never do 60 minute additions because I hate that bitter on the back side a lot of IPAs have. This way I get good concentrated hop flavor with a smooth finish.

Yes I do. I actually get more aroma from the hopstand than I do from dry hopping.

Unfortunately I really messed up today big time. When I got done with the boil I noticed quite a bit more volume than usual. After I started chilling my alarm went off one more time for some reason. Once I had hauled my beer downstairs and pitched the yeast I started cleaning up and discovered my hopstand addition still on the scale. I had stopped 5 minutes early and changed my recipe to the following. As much as I detest dry hopping because I hate hops in my fermenter it is the only thing I can think of to do with the left over simcoe and amarillos.

Right now I am thinking about boiling the left over hops for 15 minutes in water and adding that plus a half a pound of sugar after primary fermentation is done. That should be like having a 15 minute hop addition.
