I'm vary interested in trying to make one of these mills but what I'm not getting is how you roughed up the rollers with a concert bit. did you use the bit just like you would if you were to drill a hole or did you use the side of the bit. any elaboration on this would be great. thanks

I held the bit at about a 45* angle and "walked" it back and forth across the rollers. You want some even pressure, but not anything that would make the bit want to bite and drive through. Start slow and you should get a feel for it pretty quick. I actually need to "re-rough" them up a bit before I brew this weekend as it isn't pulling the grain through as fast as I would like (this will be the first time re-roughing since I built it almost 3 years ago). I'll try to get a few pics of how I do it. Make sure to take a shop vac to it after, then run some extra grain through to make sure there aren't any metal shavings left over.

Here's the exact pasta roller I got from Joann's.

Pasta Roller

$35 minus $14 (perpetual 40% off coupon you can print from their site) = $21

If you watch their site and/or check the weekly flier, they sometimes have 50-60% off single item coupons. Unless you're getting a Victoria Mill ($50ish), you could buy 6 of these pasta rollers before you approach Barley Crusher or Monster Mill prices. There is the extra cost of your time/energy to modify and build a hopper, but depending on your level of handiness it is a pretty fun project!

Also, I forgot. Run the drill on reverse when roughing up the rollers. It won't grab that way, and you can put more pressure on it. Not sure what I was thinking earlier...

all I can say is thanks again. I found the pasta roller site and also there is a store just 16 miles from me so I will go to store first and maybe get lucky and find it there. I see there are two different ones and the cheaper one looks junky but we'll see.

Whichever one you get, I would suggest removing the covers and tightening all of the internal screws, nuts, bolts. Some of mine weren't very secure when I first got it.

Open with PAINT on any Microsoft Windows computer, and pick RESIZE. Paint is located in Accessories. You can also ROTATE any picture or CROP it.

I wouldn't use any mill that came from a kitten store. Kitten, and puppy mills are very bad and should be outlawed...
