She walked away
My weekend started out with a bang, quite literally. At about 7 pm on Friday my daughter called me absolutely frantic. I couldn't even understand her with the crying and fear in her voice. After about 5 minutes of trying to calm her down I was finally able to determine that she was okay and not seriously hurt from the accident she had just been in and she was able to tell me where she was. My wife and I jumped in the car and took off to go get her and determine the extent of damage to the car.
Let me back up a little and explain what was going on at the time my daughter crashed. Earlier in the afternoon on M-14 eastbound a tractor trailer had overturned causing back ups for miles. This happened to be the same highway that my daughter travels to and from her work in the Ann Arbor Michigan area. For whatever reason this original accident had resulted in numerous crashes in the resulting back up, my daughter being one of them.
As we drove westbound on M-14 to get to where my daughter was we saw the tractor trailer semi truck accident scene with all the heavy equipment and fire trucks. Qe then saw another minor 2 car accident scene before finally rolling up on where my daughter was. As we passed her to get to the service drive to turn around we saw yet another minor accident which the state trooper was attending too before getting to my daughters accident. We finally rolled up next to the fire truck to my daughter and the 2013 Ford Focus she had been driving. After giving her a big hug, I went to inspect the car to see the extent of damage. Needless to say the car is totalled, but my daughter only has some bumps, bruses and abrasions form the airbags and impact of the crash.
Notice the curtain airbag under the dashboard. This saved my daughter from serious injury. All she has is a nasty bruse on her knee instead of a broken leg or legs. Looking at how much damage there was to the car I have to say I am thankful that the car took practically all of the impact of the crash. This could have been so much worse then it was had she not been in such a safely build car.
BTW the driver and passenger of the other car were ok and actually were able to drive away with not much problem.

Thank God your daughter is alright. She may be pretty sore and a bit shaky for a few days. Seat-belts and airbags save lives.

Never mind, there it is.

Wow Leigh, that's crazy!
So glad to hear your daughter is gonna be fine though...
That's an amazing amount of damage.
It's really a great thing that auto manufacturers are spending a lot of dollars, time and effort to continually improve the safety metrics of today's vehicles.

Glad she is ok. That truck hit an old 1940s pickup and overturned it and the truck, the pickup burst into flames. 2 of 3 people badly injured.

That is some crash and she obviously has some angels looking over her.
I'm so glad she is ok but the car looks pretty much a write off. I'm sorry this happened.

Glad she is ok, because the car looks like that is why your daughter is ok, cars today are meant to get totally destroyed, this is so the forced is reduced through the destruction of the car, leaving the people inside with the reduced load. The airbags help too. Much easier to replace the car..

Yes, we were all shaking a little and counting our blessings that nothing worse happened. I consider us very fortunate. The weekend could have been a whole lot worse.Kealia wrote:Every parents nightmare....so happy she is ok although I can only imagine how shaken everybody must be after that.
