Following the MBF stragglers

Hey all - another Mr. Beer Fans refugee here! My online name is Thorn and I got to MBF from my husband Jon. I was a kombucha brewer before we met and once he introduced me to homebrewing, I became enthusiastic about meads and ciders. We have designed one or two beer recipes together, and I work at making sure Jon has what he needs to brew.

Looking forward to being assimilated!

Welcome... I've done several ciders and a mead. I've been looking at kombucha as well. Will look forward to seeing your posts...

I've made yogurt and kefir (in addition to beer). I think I may have sent you guys some dehydrated kefir grains.

I've never made Kombucha. How does that compare with kefir or yogurt? I assume it's full of probiotics, right?

BTW, if anybody wants kefir grains, let me know.

I remember the kefir grains! The process for kombucha is not similar to milk kefir but is very similar to water kefir (which I have tried as well but don't like it). Also, kombucha mothers (also called SCOBYs) are a lot tougher to manage than the grains, since they grow like really thick pellicles and grow in width to fit their container. All of this said, YES, tons of probiotics! Different ones than in the dairy versions, but still tons of them. The other benefit of kombucha is that it has a trace amount of alcohol... :whistle:

Thanks to everyone else for your warm welcomes! I really appreciate it. Once we get Jon back to full brewing form in our new apartment, I'll try another recipe.
