I'm going to convert my chest freezer to a keezer and am unsure what size shanks I should get to put into the collar. I believe my freezer is 6.5 CU. I can fit (2) five gallon cornies, and one 2.5 gallon corny keg.
Thanks.
shank size for keezer?

I use only picnic taps myself, but I believe shank size is determined by the thickness of the collar it goes through. Hence a 2x4 collar may take a 2 1/2 to 3 inch shank, but I'm far from an expert.

A 2X is actually only 1-3/4 inch thick, and the shanks I'd seen on KegWorks site are in inch increments, starting at 2". What I'm not sure of is if the length is measured overall or threaded length. If it is threaded length you could use 2" shank. I'm pretty sure the diameter is 7/8".

I built a keezer and for anyone wanting to do this, you will want at least a 3 inch shaft to account for the wood, nut and connector. Trust me, I originally purchased a 2 inchshaft only to have to wait another week to exchange it. Losman26, how did yours turn out? Pics?

Yeah, better to be a bit over than a bit under. There's plenty of room inside the keezer for the overhang, anyway.LagerPMP wrote:I built a keezer and for anyone wanting to do this, you will want at least a 3 inch shaft to account for the wood, nut and connector.
