I know for sure I won't get anywhere near that amount this year and didn't really expect to get much of anything, but looks like I will have some and that makes me happy
I have a good one (dehydrator) that is fully adjustable, it hold up to ten lbs of meat when I make jerky. When I get close to the drying point I will ask what to look for there and how dry........You guys are great on helping.bpgreen wrote: One additional hint I've learned is that if you use a dehydrator to dry your hops, don't go cheap. I've got a dehydrator now, but before I got it, I'd go a couple of days. I live in Utah. When the humidity gets up to 10% here, people complain because muggy weather sucks.

I think that they should be about 1/5 of the wet weight. I just air dry mine with no fan but the breeze. I think I dried them a week last year.

One thing to add is that if you get a dehydrator, get a good one. If your temperatures are too high, you drive off alpha acids.

I harvested my 2 cascade vines today. I yielded 47 ounces of fresh (wet) cascade hops. Over the next week, my neighbor and I are going to make a bunch of simple, easy drinking beers to set us up for football season.
Here's a few pics.
I filled a 5 gallon pail + a little bowl
Fresh Cascade - smelled great
I used 6 oz in a batch today

You guys are all making me envious with the great hop pictures and making me want to kick myself in the a$$ again for not planting hops before this year.......After seeing how mine are doing this first year, next year at this time I know I will be in the game. I got a second harvest from my hallertauer bine today. The first one was only 35 g (dry; didn't check wet). I picked 520 g today and they're in the dehydrator now. I'm guessing it'll be about 6 oz dry. I may get another half oz or so.
I also got about 9 oz from my cascades and will probably get another ounce or two.
And I haven't touched the nugget, Perle, or centennial yet.

I really wish hops grew well down where I live. I'd love to do some wet hop brews. I hope to be able to visit a hop farm one day and rub hop oils all over my body.

I am planning to do an "all-local" harvest brew in the next week or two. My home-grown hops, town water (treated), malt from a local maltster, and yeast from a nearby LHBS that cultures their own yeast.
Everything originates from within a half-hour of home!
