UGGGGHGGGG

Post by Whamolagan »

If it could happen it has today. For starters our thermometer decided to get wacky on us, I should have quit there. Implement the backup thermometer. I start the kegging process while the mash is happening, and I run out of co2. must have had a leak. I checked it as usual, but found nothing. so I have no way to purge the kegs. and no [place to put the wort. I hate these kind of days.

Just saw this in the other thread - sorry to hear about the trouble? Will you be without CO2 for a while or just a few days?

Hopefully be able to get co2 tomorrow. I wont be able to brew or keg until next sunday. so grain down the drain. and flat beer and cider. And it didn't stop with beer. My family is in town (the ones that are helping with funding) and mom decided that brew day was shot(she wanted to see the process) she would take us to lunch. I ordered a meatball sandwich, got a sausage. Came home to go through business plan, and no ink in the printer. Then get an order for a mash paddle, no ink to print label. No one open in town. 1 hour round trip usual. hit the 101 and traffic. oh well, keep cool, at least it is not 95 degrees. So presentation tonite with the parental units, and BBQ and BEEEEER. I am not gonna drop the mike, it would probably break my toe. :thanks: guys and gals. I know we all have those days.

Well monday got a little better. I went to airgas to get more co2 (and a backup) I took my regulator with me and got quite a surprise. One guy had never seen one like I have. I got it from midwest supplies. the flange on the chrome one has a groove. So when I tighten the nut onto the tank the gasket compresses past the groove and leaks. I bought a new one.

The new one is flat and has an o-ring. A learning point.

You know, now that you mention o-rings......I seem to recall my regulator coming with a red plastic disk that went between the tank the regulator. The last time I filled the tank I don't recall seeing it when I put it back together. And I was having carbonation issues on my last two kegs.

I previously had my psi at 12/13 at 38 degrees for the carb level I wanted but I had to crank it up to almost 16 psi to get proper carb and pour. I'm wondering now if I'm in need of that plastic disc again to provide the proper separation and allow for the proper gas flow.

@Kealia: Yup, it was probably both a seal and a flow regulator of some type.

@Wham: I suspect that the groove you describe is supposed to have an O-Ring in it as well.

It didn't come with an o-ring, it came with A nylon washer

Aha, is it compressed beyond it's original shape?

I guess so. Hard to tell. No leaks in the new regulator.
