Coming Soon...my first AG Grainfather Brew Day!
So as some of you know, I was a kickstarter backer of the Grainfather. I got it a while ago, but haven't had a chance to really try it out (did the initial cleaning and a test boil, but nothing else yet).
I *think* that I'll have time to brew a test batch with it sometime next week. I'm thinking that I'm going to do a relatively boring beer--10 lbs Pale Ale malt with 1 oz of hops (depending on the hops, split at 60' and sometime late in the boil/at flameout), fermented at 65-68* for 2-3 weeks, then kegged.
I'll have to look at what yeasts I have in stock, and what hops I want to use. I also have one of those damn sprayer attachments on my kitchen sink, so I don't have a good way to hook up the CFC (and until our broken dishwasher gets repaired/replaced by the landlord, I don't want to rig up a connector for it!), so I might just go no chill-ish into a plastic bucket.
Regardless, I'll be sure to post pics of it in action...maybe even a video, if you're lucky.

I'm interested to hear about your Grain Father brew day, Jon. The last time I peaked at my LHBS' website it appears they have them for sale. Not currently on my to buy list though.

I'm looking forward to hearing about this.

Just checked it out. The instructions make it seem more complex to mess with then the Zymatic Picobrew, which seems much more "fire and forget". I guess it all depends on how much you want to still be involved in the process and how much beer you want to make.
Not that I can afford either at the moment.

You should consider afixing connectors on the cold supply and drain under the sink with shutoff valves.
This way, you could just open the sink cabinet door and attach your CFC and open the valves when ready.

That is exactly what I've been considering...just not until our dishwasher is fixed/replaced!BigPapaG wrote:Jon,Jon wrote:Yep, as BeerWarrior said, CFC is short for Counterflow Chiller.bpgreen wrote:CFC?

My LHBS just got one of those in and brewed with it. I'm very interested to see it in action, as it would be a great way to bring bigger capacity to my home with limited space.

Are you going to have a beer borg shirt on whilst brewing the grainfather?

I posted my review. If you want, you can add to it or start your own. Give it a read and maybe you can avoid some of the same mistakes that I made. Wish I would have collected more data, but I was multitasking (two batches and drinking). Hope all goes well, can't wait to hear about it.
