Beware of Comcast/Xfinity X1 platform!!
I would not recommend Comcast/Xfinity's new X1 platform to anyone. In fact I would stay away from it.
1. Our connection speed was in the 50 mbs range before getting it. Now it is in the 1 mbs range. with having T-Mobile we need a reliable WI-FI at the house.
2. Comcast/Xfinity advertises that the apps are on all of the boxes. The sales staff & tech support will tell you so. They are not!!
3. They higher ups in the support chain will tell you that they do not care about the above. The platform is selling.
4. The contractors that Comcast/Xfinity send out to do the install are totally incompetent!!
A.) the one that came out to our home said we needed an amp. He never installed one!!
B.) he unplugged our sump pump never plugged it back in. Good thing our basement did not
flood
5. Comcast/Xfinity tried to bill us for a second cable box. We have had one for over 13 years now!
Also tried that for a second IP Address have not had for 10 years!
This is how the treat a customer of nearly 30 years!! Unfortunately they are pretty much the only game in town around here. Satellite TV reception is extremely poor around here.

Couldn't get Comcast here if I wanted to. We have very little competition....Cox, AT&T Uverse and Dish. Cox is pretty good compared to what I hear about others but we're still not getting what we pay for. Customer service is very good but with people cutting cable, it's gong to get ugly for us soon.

Don't like Comcast either but it's the only high speed provider in my area. They switched us to Xfinity without any warning and upped the price. Called and complained and asked what the price jump was for and their reply was "Well now it's Xfinity." not because the service was upgraded or anything, just because of a name change. Any problems that I've had with service has been fixed by their "technicians" but a new problem then arises. I wouldn't recommend them to anybody.

Yeah I'm forced to use them for high speed access....Sucks but that's how it is until Google Fiber is nationwide.
Yeah they suck, they are expensive, but I download way too many shows and video games to go with DSL.

We have AT&T right now, no issues with the tv part, hate the internet part. Many modum issues and we pay through the nose. Infinity was on our list...
Re: Beware of Comcast/Xfinity X1 platform!!
I hate hate HATE Comcast with a passion. Unfortunately, I am stuck with them for internet, as there is no other option where I live. They have raised their rates substantially and without warning multiple times in the last year. I am THIS CLOSE to going to Dish or DirecTV for television service, because the savings would be significant, but I'm not keen on getting locked into a 2-year agreement. And then I'm still stuck with Comcast for internet anyway, so there's really no escaping them. Ugh. I don't understand how such a horrible company is even allowed to exist. So yeah, I feel your pain, bro.

Glad to hear about this. Bright House is our provider right now and we get things from Xfinity all the time in the mail, and was tempted to change because we were having sh*tty internet service over the last few months. Come to find out we had a tech that actually knew what he was doing and figured out that when they replaced our modem and lines that they failed to replace the power supply and the modem crapped out because of lack of power. It's been running great since. Before the tech came and fixed our issue, we were regularly having speeds of 0.5 Mbps, and even less, where it is supposed to put out 10 Mbps. We're up sometimes into the 12 Mbps range now.

We have DirecTV and have had it for well over 10 years with no complaints. If you choose to switch to satellite, I'd recommend DirecTV over Dish. My aunt and uncle had Dish and the quality was about half what we have with DirecTV. My dad has Verizon internet but he lives in a city so he has options. His Verizon has never once had any random outages. Comcast on the other hand, seems to be routine. I have figured out though if you call and complain enough about their lack of quality of service and that technicians fail to fix issues, they will usually give you a credit on your bill for the next month.

Both of my neighbors had one of the dish providers, they switched back to the hell that is Comcast/Xifinity seems like we are in the between the signal areas. So I do not know.DirtRacer wrote:We have DirecTV and have had it for well over 10 years with no complaints. If you choose to switch to satellite, I'd recommend DirecTV over Dish. The Xfinity tech found a couple of issues from the install that the contractor preformed. The wrong filter was installed. The cable was the wrong gauge from the pole to the house, which the contractor had changed. Judging from how the computers are acting the speed issue seems resolved. This tech told me that if a contractor is actually a good tech Xfinity hires them to go and fix the messes that the contractors caused in the first place!! I have had major problems with every contractor install. One swapped out my HDMI box for one that was component. Like we would not be able to tell the difference in picture & sound quality!!!
My biggest B!!ch about this is how their sales & phone tech support just flat out lied to my wife and I about the service. Treated me like I do not understand technology!! I may not totally current but having a degree in CNC programing with a minor in robotics does count a little does it not??
Like a lot of people seems like we are stuck with this fiasco!! My folks have their choice between Brighthouse, WOW, Xfinity and the satellite providers!!!

We cut the TV cord but have Comcast internet. We had issues and used the Contact Rick feature to reach Rick Germano. Eventually got to the head of local service and got the problems resolved. We got tired of the continual price hikes and having to beg for a new deal.
