Friends from the net

Post by Beer-lord »

You know how you might work with someone online but never meet them in person? Then they tell you they are coming to your town and you get to meet them? Well, some of us on this forum have become very good friends this way.
Here's another one of those stories.
Many, many years ago (circa 2000 or so) I was using CD software from Roxio and used their forum for help. After a few months, I begin to help people and then I was asked to moderate the forum with 11 or people. I became online friends with a few and after 15 years, still talk regularly by phone and email and 2 guys are from New Zealand. Well, one of those people from NZ are coming in to the US next week and are going to be in NOLA for 2 1/2 days with his wife and son and we are very much looking forward to showing them around and getting to meet them in person.
I think this is pretty cool and though I am wary when I first meet people online, I would like to think I'm a pretty good judge of character so I guess we'll survive the visit.

OK, I've met a few of you from this forum in person and you all owe me a good amount of money so you better pay up soon. :bart:

We discussed him bringing hops but he said he asked and they won't allow him to bring any in. But he's willing to mail me some when he gets back. I explained I can get them here anyway.
They've been to the US a few years ago but stayed on the West Coast. They are making their way to Orlando for the most part since they have 2 kids (8 and 14 I think).
He is a homebrewer too but I didn't know that until about 5 years ago.

Jeff, you had me at 'kilt'.

Best. Reply. Ever.

You, know there's a reason that I didn't meet you guys in Feb. The truth is, I'm really not very interesting and if you meet me in person you'll figure that out [emoji14]

Honestly, that's great and it sounds like fun. Someday....

I don't care what the others have to say about you Paul, you're alright in my book! That is nice to put faces with names and voices, but if you start putting faces to those voices in your head we're all in trouble!

Its okay BlackDuck, if they are coming all the way here to go to MouseLand its better to have them meet Beer-Lord first and run home screaming and telling everybody there how nuts we Americans are. If they had a great time all of the lines at the park would be even longer than they already are. ;)

So I was thinking........I checked and though he supposedly can't bring hops with him, he can take a small amount home so, I'd like to give my friend something from homebrewer to homebrewer and I know American hops are expensive in NZ so, if I were to buy some hops for him to take back with him, what would you think would be the best ones to get?
I'm thinking the C-hops to start as well as maybe some of the newest hop varieties.
What say ye?
