If I understand your meaning of non standard equipment I would say my case crate (see Kegging Bottling thread) is my favorite item. I use a Rad Barron wing capper and like the stability it offers on bottling day plus I don't have to do one bottle at a time. It also comes in handy when I'm moving bottles to the beer closet or from the beer closet to the fridge.
I also like these containers for keeping beer gear organized.
Another non standard item we use is a plastic ruler for determining water and wort volumes in our brew and sparge kettles. Our accuracy has seen huge improvement since we started doing this.

Him.....
He's a pretty damn good timer. Shows up at the end of the mash cause he knows he will get a handful of grain when it cools. He still can't understand why I want to do a 90 minute mash sometimes.Naked Cat Brewery On Tap

Re: Non standard brew equipment you use or want?
well i got a 8 gal pot to start but found i need another large pot for splarging . the others i have required me to use 2 pots for a 5 gallon batch, so i ended up buying a 5 gal pot anyway.(just can't win ) i could've probably got by with a 12q but like they say; buy bigger than you think you need.mtsoxfan wrote:When thinking of buying equipment, take some time to consider where do you think this hobby is headed? Some people, myself included, buy equipment without thinking down the road. I bought a 5 gal pot, then an 8. When I bought the 8, I knew I wasn't going any bigger. Sure, I have to watch the initial boil, and when adding hops, but have learned what to look for, and how to add to prevent boil overs.
I guess what I'm saying is, don't buy the equipment twice if you can avoid it.
I've been wanting a thermapen for years for cooking/smoking. Now, Maybe I can justify it when I add brewing to the mix...
