Never dry hop first thing in the morning

Post by FedoraDave »

I forgot to dry hop the Black Hops last night, but when I woke up today, I remembered, so I resolved to do it first thing. Of course, by the time I got downstairs, I'd forgotten about it already, but then I started making a list of ingredients I need to get at the LHBS this evening, and I remembered that I'd forgotten, then remembered, then forgotten again. Are you following this?

So I get everything I need, including a new foil packet of Cascade. I only need half an ounce, so I cut it open, measure it out, and then tape the packet up again.

And I go downstairs to dry hop. And then I come back upstairs to put the packet of hops away, and I can't find it. I'm baffled, and can't remember if I already put it back in the freezer. I don't think I did, but it's early morning, and I have the long-term memory of a fruit fly anyway. But I start putting stuff away, like the scissors I cut the packet open with, and the roll of Scotch tape, and when I open the drawer to put the tape away, there's the packet of hops.

In the drawer.

Where the tape is supposed to go.

I have absolutely no memory of putting it there.

I wish I could go back to bed.

I was expecting the story to end with two or more bags of dry hop additions in the fermenter. :)

I figured the package of hops would be in the fermenter, and the sack with the hops would be in the drawer... :o

I was wondering if coffee would end up in your beer.

Thing is, I'm usually a morning person. I'm certainly more productive in the mornings, and tend to veg out in the evenings, especially during the busy season at work, when it's not unusual for me to work 10 - 12 hours a day.

But today was probably just a result of getting out of my usual morning rhythm and sort of doing things by rote.
