Beer Photography

Most of my attempts produce less that stellar results.

Any tips such as lighting ... backdrops ... angles ... for getting a great money shot?

I like to take them outside and blur out the back ground.

I agree with Gymrat that the natural lighting outside really makes you want to reach out and grab that glass. Like those ^^^right there^^^. :give:

I generally like to do that with beers, too. My phone actually does that so I don't have to deal with a camera, sd card, etc.
I have a light box I use (like the bastard does) for when I want to put more time into it for a good shot.

But if you use an iphone like many do, without an app, it's next to impossible have the background blurred.
So, can anyone do that with an iphone sans app?
I still have some very old SLR cameras that I paid good money for years ago I should take out and play with.
Roger, your photos always look great too. Ibastard has you beat by a bit but his shots don't have Ralph in them so it's almost a tie. :)

Gonna try a .99 app tonite and see how it works. It pretty much requires some finger touching up but to my knowledge after googling, it can't be done natively on an iphone but what do I know.

No and I won't either, but my wifes Samsung Galaxy takes better pics. then my IPhone does. Yes the Ibastard is the king of close up beer photos on here, but a lot of other great beer pictures on here too by others. fit takes some really good outdoor pictures of things besides beer. mine aren't always the clearest, but I like seeing a little background even though the beer is what the focus is on. I like my fish tank or a animal in the background.

OOOH beer pairs quite nicely with roast goose.

Let's not forget Mrs. Inkleg who is the best photographer on the Borg though admittedly her shots are not always "a glass of beer".

I bet the Inkster would pass on some pointers from her if you ask real nice. ;)

I have an app on my Android phone/tablet called AfterFocus. It's also available for iOS. It allows you to blur the background and enhance the photo.

That's the one I bought for .99. It works just ok. Nothing beats an SLR in manual mode, in my opinion but I'm old school.

Hey guys. Nice pics! I love the beer on a post gymrat. I'm glad I've got you all fooled with my photos lately. I'll fill you in on how I do it. Really high tech. I take a roll of white craft paper and tape it to the wall and unroll it onto the floor in my kitchen next to the glass sliders. Then I lay down on the floor and take my shot. Natural light from the left and a nice seamless white background. Nothing fancy. I usually color correct and adjust levels and sharpness on my phone with an app for Android. I'll take a pic of my setup soon. Takes all of five minutes. Keep those beer shots coming!

Here is a shot of the setup and an adjusted version using an app called aviary for Android.
