I am kicking this around for an IPA to brew this weekend. I have never tried Huell Melon hops before. They are supposed to have a ripe strawberry aroma. I bought a 8x9 1/2 inch nylon hop sack and am going to use that to dry hop so I don't get hop matter in my fermenter.

Re: Ralph's Winter IPA
That's a good looking recipe. But I'm not sure how much you'll notice the Huell Melon with the amount of the other awesome hops you have in there. I just think that the 8 ounces of citrus bomb from all the others at 15 minutes and under will just drown out the Huell Melon, just my opinion though.

Re: Ralph's Winter IPA
My thinking is if I use them for the dry hop they should dominate the aroma. But not the flavor.
Re: Ralph's Winter IPA
But you'll get a ton of aroma from the 10 minute, the 5 minute and steep additions, which is a total of 6 ounces. And the awesome hops you are using for those additions are quite powerful. Only one way to find out....brew it up!!!

Re: Ralph's Winter IPA
What about moving the Amarillo Whirlpool hops to the Dry Hop position...
But take a second running for a smaller pale ale from the lautering and use the two ounces of HM there for a single hop test?
Would be like a session IPA...
Just a thought...

Re: Ralph's Winter IPA
Typically at the end of brew day I am too tired to do another boil.

Well, there's that...Gymrat wrote:Typically at the end of brew day I am too tired to do another boil.
Re: Ralph's Winter IPA
The grain bill is similar to the IPA I just brewed but you're heavier on the Munich. Hops are similar with Amarillo, Simcoe, Columbus and then some variations but I'm betting both are going to be great.
