I have to say, they are one of my favorite breweries. Oddly enough, I don't like the Union Jack much but I do like the Double Jack. The UJ comes across as very "English" to me and it's either the sweetness or the breadiness that I don't care for much.

That being said, their Pale Ale is stellar as is their Session IPA (Easy Jack) which I tend to rave about. The first beer I ever had from them was their Double Barrel Ale which I have a pretty clone recipe for if you ever try one and decide that you like it.

Cheers!

I absolutely know what you mean. I drank three of them last night, wanted to keep drinking them, but my eyelids had other plans.

I may bring some to Asheville......since you aren't going, you won't have any.
But if you come, I'll promise to not bring any. Truth or dare?

Guiness Nitro IPA. Cuz it was on the single can shelf. So why not.

What is it... well... it's sort of an English IPA, but with roasted barley for color (you can just barely taste it too) instead of darker crystal - with watered down bitterness, and an attempt at American IPA hop forwardness. But with not enough hop forwardness to be an American IPA. Nor enough bitterness.

The nitrogen widgets carb is weird, CO2 carb would make the hops pop more and increase the perceived bitterness. The nitro doesn't do that. The creaminess just mellows everything even more.

So as an IPA... kind of meh (although it is perhaps better some of the "session IPAs" I've had, but at 5.8% it doesn't count as a session IPA).

As something more like a pale ale, it's not bad. It's really easy to drink. It doesn't taste bad or off or wrong to my tastes. It's just not an IPA.

It's hop combination is unusual which I think is offputting to some American reviewers who complain about a weird aroma (and of course that it's not a IPA). As in it's a mix of British(Admiral, Challenger), Aussie (Topaz), Slovenian (Styrian Goldings/Celeia variety), and Cascade. There is some styrian goldings in the nose and finish along with the cascade and topaz. For folks who have never had a Belgians or British beers with Styrians in them, that might be the weird aroma they are getting. I don't perceive it as weird. In fact this hop combination would be delicious in a "Belgian IPA". Except it needs a little bit more. The Belgian IPA I made actually has more similarities to this then this does to an IPA (it's nothing but Styrians and Cascade, all of it late additions). Except my beer has a more bite due to higher attenuation, higher carb, and it has more flavor due to yeast presence to add to the flavor/complexity.

Would I buy it again? Probably not. Would I drink it if someone gave me a can? Sure. Would I make a Belgian IPA with this grain/hop bill if I knew exactly what it was? I think so, with some sugar to dry it out.

For someone who thinks IPAs are too bitter, or too intense, this might be a good beer to push their boundaries a bit.

It's better as it warms up. So if you try some let it warm up. Cold really mutes everything in this and it's muted to begin with.

Rhinegeist Exum Pale Ale. Such a good pale ale. This place doesn't know how to make a bad beer. They are out of Cincinnati, if you ever see anything from them, buy it. You won't be disappointed.

Last night after football, we built a fire in the firepit and tapped into a Scottish Ale I kegged earlier in the week. It was / is pretty darn good!
