Arrogant Bastard
When I first started brewing the beer people on all the forums were looking to clone was Stone Brewing's Arrogant Bastard. Well Stone Brewing finally made it to Topeka and I am trying one now.
I must say it is a nice color. Sort of a light brown with a cream color head. I am not sure how to describe the aroma. Mildly hoppy but not impressive. Taking a drink the first thing that hits me is a really potent bitterness. I can't for the life of me figure out why people like that. But they do. Once I get passed the bitterness I get a really nice malty flavor. I am really surprised there isn't more hop flavor to this beer.
Over all I am just not impressed with it. But that's me and I know I am in the minority on that one.

Arrogant is just ok in my book. Now Double Bastard, that's more like it.

I use to be crazy about it but now it's just ok. And, Double Bastard is more to my liking as well.

Paul, I think you and I have over hopped our taste buds. Not that that's a bad thing by any stretch of the imagination.Beer-lord wrote:I use to be crazy about it but now it's just ok. And, Double Bastard is more to my liking as well.

Re: Arrogant Bastard
Someone gave me an Arrogant Bastard a few months ago and got the first chance to try it last night. Also was hit with the overpowering bitterness. I think it would have been much better if they had cut back on that and let more of the malt flavor come forward. Hate to waste beer but couldn't finish it.

Re: Arrogant Bastard
The Oaked Arrogant Bastard is a bit better but I wouldn't go out of my way to get either. They make so many other better beers.

Stone's IRS is amazing...
Their best beer IMHO besides the first batch of RuinTen (before they called it RuinTen)

I cut my craft beer teeth with a Stone AB, my son gave me one for father's day a few years back. First sip and I was blown away, yea it's bitter but it very quickly gives way to that delicious malty sweetness. I still have one every once in awhile, but I prefer the oaked version, I also don't find it as bitter anymore and I tend to drink higher ibu beers that are alot more bitter.
