I have a lifetime supply of keglube as well, but I rarely use it. I prefer to keep a spray bottle of sanitizer on hand & spray the posts when connecting the air or beer line to the keg. Dropping the main lid into some sanitizer lubes it enough that it is easy to seat it correctly in the opening.

Congrats on the move to kegging! You are going to love it! Besides the already given advice, I would tell you to not stress about using CO2 for purging, cleaning, etc. a cylinder will last a lot longer you think. Just make sure to leak check everything and you'll be good for many batches. Welcome to the world of draft beers!

I kept track of a newly filled 5lb tank once. I purge a keg with CO2 before filling as well as obviously carbonating and serving. I'm thinking I got a dozen or so kegs on one tank. It was a few years ago. Can't remember the exact number.

I'm at a point now where I'm in a quandary!
It seems the thermostat on the fridge has gone bad, and it's not
available anymore.
I'm at the point where I'm ready to keg my first batch also!
It cools and freezes great, but it won't shut off!

I was wondering if something like this would do the job of cycling the fridge.

It certainly sounds like it would. I used a Johnson Controller before I bought my STC-1000 which I love.

Edit: I should add that I only took a quick read of that Amazon link. And I'm not the most technical guy you'll ever meet. I can highly recommend the STC-1000, though.

I'm using STC-1000s, have heard a lot of good things about the Inkbird controllers, so you're good.

I just swapped out my Johnson single stage controller on my fermenter with an STC-1000 dual stage controller. Just cooling was ok for the summer time but the garage is getting cool enough it was time to add a heater to the temperture control loop. I used the instruction in this video;

With a fridge that is old enough that the thermostat is no longer available, I wonder if you'd be better off in the long run with a new fridge. The upfront costs are daunting, but they're far more energy efficient and the energy savings can pay for the price difference pretty quickly.

Bp, that discussion has happened already with me getting a whole faceful of the stinkeye from SWMBO!

Seriously, that's my plan sometime next year, but I have two surgeries to pay for this month and
a cruise coming up in Feburary.
Found one at Home Depot for $298 this past Monday.
