What are you drinking?

Re: What are you drinking?
I'll add an additional note here. Mashani has commented on the Enjoy By thread about the alcohol level being unnecessarily too high on a lot of Stone's beers, especially the Enjoy By line. I have to absolutely agree with him on this one too. The Graniac clocks in at 8.5%. This would be a fantastic beer if it was in the low 6's. As this beer warms up, the alcohol rears it's ugly head. It shows up in the aroma and in the flavor. It takes over the fantastic balance of malt and hops that was there cold, right out of the fridge. I'm with you here Mashani, the high alcohol just isn't necessary. And it damn near ruins this one.

Don't get me wrong, I think high alcohol can be done right and create a fantastic product. I just don't think that in any of the Stone beers I've had this is the case. It's probably just my inner Belgian bitching, but I expect it to not be quite so noticeable as alcohol.BlackDuck wrote:I'm with you here Mashani, the high alcohol just isn't necessary. Remy Martin 1738 Accord Royale (Fine Champagne Cognac).
Not something I would drink everyday. But interesting to pour a bit in a glass every few months.

Southern Tier Pumking, a little expensive beer but try one you will like it. I do and got me hooked on making my own pumpkin beer - love the spices..... One of my retirement gifts and enjoying now...

Re: What are you drinking?
I don't know why they released this in January, because this is clearly a hot weather after cycling 50 miles kind of beer.
It's not highly sour. You notice the sour mostly on the sides of your tongue. And it's not so much salt that you notice it as salty. Some people might want more of both, but honestly this is more like what it's supposed to be like, especially if you were drinking a young fresh sour at a café. It simply is "enough", and is balanced well.
The grapefruit and prickly pear cactus, add something - it's kind of a "juicy" vibe - but I'd not identify either as such blind tasting it. But it is different then the straight up coriander vibe.
I'd happily drink a lot of this in the summer after cycling. I like it.

Thanks for the review Dave, that sounds good. I haven't seen it around these parts yet, but now I'll look a little harder.

That description sounds great. I'll have to try and find some locally as well. Hopefully Beer Thirty will have it on tap and I can give it a quick taste.

Yazoo's new Playoff Seasonal... Daddy-o Pilsner. Bready, with a lemony hop character...Sorachi Ace? I'll have to ask next time at the brewery. Quite tasty... i like the addition of the 5th seasonal.

Re: What are you drinking?
Just had a Sam Adams Boston Lager and then a "Not Your Daddy's Rootbeer" with supper. I'm going to have to make a version of that rootbeer as the wife seems to like it. I've found this Bastard Stepson Root Beer over on the Northern Brewer site that sounds good. It's a cream stout with the assorted root beer flavorings.

Four Kilts Clueless Belgian Dark Strong Ale. The recipe that was formulated at last years Borg meetup trip to Nashville. At 8.8%, I only need one and I'm going to sleep good tonight.

Tea. I just had two molars removed and naturally, they have you take antibiotics. So, Booz free for a bit. I started up the Nong Brewery again, so I'm filling up.
The Nong Brewery defines "Fermentation" as: Making "Rot" a Good Thing

Re: What are you drinking?
Nothing since knocking out a growler of an AWESOME session IPA from Russian River with a buddy last Thursday. Woke up Friday with a cold that is now gone.
So tomorrow is going to be a fresh Pliny that came home from that visit.
