Who Is Brewing What Today?

I get ya Steve. I can't mash 23 lbs in my 15 gallon pot so I'll need to do a small sparge.
I could brew every other day and never get tired.
And Dave, Sunday's are usually my brew day too. I get the grains crushed, the water and hops measured the day/night before so that when I get up, I can start the mash right away. And it makes it a 4 plus hour brew day instead 5 or more.

I have to say if it weren't for diner I could stay out here all day and night.

I've got 3oz of roasted barley cold steeping. Not very exciting yet I know.

Got the mash water going about 7:30. Not too bad outside compared to many of you guys. 45 but the sun is working it's way out and it's not too breezy and looks like it's dying down.
Going to be a long day and I hope to finish to be able to see most of the first game today.

No Vince, just a new pot. Added sight glass and whirlpool arm to this pot to match my 15 g pot, picked up pump, counter flow chiller and all cam locks last spring. Couple more fittings and will not have to keep moving the mash cooler up and down for strike and sparge fills.

Well it happens to the best of us at some point I guess, missing the target volume and overshooting the OG by several points. It's not the end of the world either. Looks like this first Kolsch attempt will be just outside of the style guidelines, but it will turn out to be a very interesting beer in a few months.

On a more positive note the pH at the end of the mash did come out very close to what EZwatercalculator had said it would have. In the end the mash pH was just .02 pH lower than the calculated 5.42 pH, and well within my tolerance for error.

It's good to see so many brewing activities are taking place by the Borg this weekend.

First time in 6 weekends that I have done nothing in the brewery but take measurements, and drink some of the fruits. I got 3 kegs to go into the kegerator, and 26 gallons to go into kegs next weekend. I got a late xmas gift from a friend that included $150 gift cards to my LBHS. Ironically last week we made a brew out of the last of the grain in storage, so I will be refilling grain supplies for the next 6 months, and $150 will almost do it. So a week off in the brewery, allowed me to work in the wood shop, although that ate into my drinking time.

That does definitely not sound like a bad weekend at all, I'm sure you'll agree. Good to hear you got to spend some quality time doing exactly what you enjoy the most. Your pipeline is twice the size as mine, in fact my Imperial Common Beer is going to be kicked with the next glass I pour.

There's 7 gallons of American Brown Ale on tap, it'll have to last at least 6 weeks. In my mind, being able to brew 10 or more gallon batches at a time, means brewing less often. Which means having more time in between brewdays planning what to brew next. Homebrewing, it's more than just brewing beer.

What a great day it was. Beautiful weather. 56 for a high, clear and sunny. The brew day was challenging since I can't get enough water in my 15 gallon kettle for a BIAB but I did a dunk sparge and killed the OG. Even had to add water near the end to keep it to recipe. Gonna do these on the fast track and keg before the Asheville trip.
Then, we had friends over to help with the cleanup and ate like kings and watched both games. Even put the TV outside with a nice fire and enjoyed the game, ate and drank homebrew. Kicked a keg and came very close to kicking a second one.
Not enough nice days like today!

I'm brewing my "Sugar Plum Winter Lager"... which won't be ready until spring or summer, but I will save some until next winter, and will be nice on spring and fall evenings too.

Glad to hear it Paul, you paint a really nice picture of a perfect brewday, it sounds to me like you couldn't have asked for a better day. My 15 gallon kettle maxes out with a mix of 23 pounds of grain and 12 gallons of water, it comes out to a mash thickness of 2.125 quarts per pound. I always have to lift the grains after mashing them too and then sparge them in order to hit my pre-boil volume.

I am brewing today, since it is a holiday. And it is a balmy 6 degrees here in Indiana..... Brrrr. Brewing up an Oatmeal stout.

Not brewing today but bottled a 5 of pumpkin ale. it came out really clear for a pumpkin was secondary. I wish I could take better close-ups with my I Phone.

Maybe getting better pic with the phone, now to keep it level to show the real number.
