Almost back to full capacity

Post by FedoraDave »

I wasn't going to start brewing on my regular, somewhat crazy weekly schedule until after Labor Day, but I got back from my vacation yesterday, and was sitting around this morning, and thought, "Hey, I got at least one Mr. Beer recipe I can do this morning; what's one hour?"

So I just filled my second LBK, and next weekend I'll brew up a fiver AG of Pearly Pils, so it'll be ready for competition early next year. That'll put me back on schedule, if I choose to go that route. I'll need to find something for the smaller batches, though, as I'm not going to use Mr. Beer anymore. I'm going to research BrewDemon's recipes to see if there's anything there I like. Otherwise, I guess I'll split some kits or else formulate some generic DME recipes, just to have beer in the works. I'm not ready for BIAB two weeks out of every three, with full-on mashes the third week. I need to keep the brew time as short as possible for the LBK batches, so I don't burn out early.

Welcome back from vacation Dave I hope you had a good time.

Since you were gone I don't know if you saw that Brew Demon is offering the Borg a discount until Aug. 31. It is almost all the way to the bottom of the index. Also it seems there is some excitement on the Brew Demon recipe section about favorite recipes from the past (pre buyout). :fedora:

Well, I ordered some HMEs and UMEs from BD. Enough for two batches, anyway, and we'll take it from there. I may relax my schedule anyway, and not get into the really intense weekly schedule until the late fall. I'll also be doing some smaller experimental AG batches, to develop and refine some recipes.

Welcome back from vacation Dave, hope you had a great time. I was wondering where you had been as you hadn't posted for a few days. I was afraid someone was holding you hostage, forcing you to brew beer for them. :laugh

Because of the forum fiasco, or some other reason? If it's the former, and if I were the CEO at Mr. Beer/Coopers, I'd be sitting up and taking notice.

Partly because of the forum fiasco, and partly because of expense. They're kits (at least the ones I'd be most interested in) were just getting too pricey. I can order HME and LME separately from BD and put together one of their recipes for much less. I assume they'll be rolling out more advanced recipes in the future, and we'll see where that goes, but right now I'm just dipping my toe in the water.

I prefer AG to extract kits, but I don't always want to take the time. And since I like to have a full pipeline with a lot of variety in it, this is a good way for me to make that happen.

I agree Dave. I too like and even prefer doing the AG batches, but being able to throw together a quick batch, even on a work-night, comes in quite handy at times. Plus, those smaller batches still serve as a base for experiments.

Glad you had a good vacation.

Why not? They (for no apparent good reason) killed the good features of the old borg ... but I still like their (Cooper's) stuff, especially the Craft line.

I will check out the Brew Demon sale tomorrow, for sure, but it will likely be Wicket and ADIPA, called something else now.

Buy what you want. It's your brewing.
