I had one of those Radio Shack TRS-80's, a Model I. I started out with just a examark cartridge tape drive (think of an 8-track tape and you've got the idea) and a cassette tape drive. I then found and upgraded to a aftermarket extender(?) box that upgraded the computers memory and so I could use 5 1/4" floppy drives. Long, long time ago. I think the TRS-80 is still in my Mom's basement somewhere as I sorta remember seeing it when I was back for my Dad's funeral last year.

What a huge difference the yeast made and of course, the dry hops. Here's the info:
001 finished at 1.013, exactly where it should have. It cold crashed extremely clean and that shows thru in the early taste. The nose is really enjoyable and the taste lets all the hops shine thru. In fact, I can't tell that this beer is only 14 days old. I could really force/shake carb and drink right away but I just put it in the kegerator to try when I get back.
The 007 finished at 1.014, not bad for 007 but it's very cloudy. Hard to believe I cold crashed this. And though it smells similar, the taste differences this early are huge. Lots of esters and that has affected the taste especially with the different hops. But, I did not expect this to be so different even this early.
It's in the keg and it will likely need 2-3 weeks to clear as I know it's the yeast in it that is giving this the unclean and green taste.
I'll post side by side pics and info in about 2 weeks.

What a unique, difference these 2 beers are now. The 001 version is perfect. I love it and am very, very happy with it. (when have you heard me say that before). It's light, refreshing and is the perfect pale ale for Paul.
The 007 needs another week to clear as it's still containing some yeast but while very good and enjoyable, everything about it is different other than the color. The dry hops and the yeast really altered this beer.
This was fun making 2 beers out of one and I may do this again in the summer time.

3 weeks later, I'm still enjoying these and the 007 version is so much better now. It will likely never clear (the 001 has) but now that much of the yeast has settled out, the semi bubble gum flavor is gone and these 2 beers are some of the best pales I've made so far. Still very much different from each other but even blending these 2 together makes for very, very tasty beers.
Almost makes me want to give up IPA's but NOT!!!!!

Anybody hear back from Ron yet? Hope he pulled through.

I shared both both versions the 001 and 007 with a friend week before last. Ron pretty much nails the description. They are both excellent beers. The 007 a little more malt sweet with the 001 being on the crisp side. The 001 was hazy as Paul had mentioned before while the 007 was crystal clear. Like Ron mentioned, quaffing these would not be a problem. Well done Paul and Thank You!

Thanks for the reviews. For me, from the keg, the 001 is crystal clear and the 007 never did clear up. I really don't like the 007 much at all and it started out with a very slight bubble gum, candy taste (from the yeast I guess) and ended up a bit better when warmed up a little.
But, it's changing so much I'm amazed. There's only a little of the 007 left and it'll be gone this weekend but I had some Sunday and it was a much different beer. I'd make it with the 001 again but not the 007. I think the yeast/hops mixed didn't go together so well. The 001 lets the hops shine while the 007 took over too much for my liking.

Jeff, I wonder if you got the 2 mixed up because for me, the 001 was so much clearer. I do have a bomber of 001 left that I will open soon and see what's happened to it.

My bottle of 007 was pretty clear. I didn't notice much haze at all. I haven't had the 001 yet, but if it's better than the 007 I'm really looking forward to it.

Candy, bubblegum....those are great descriptions of what I smelled and tasted.

The 001 poured nice and clear, just like the other one did. If one of them wasn't clear for you, clearly I have the magic touch since you couldn't get a clear beer even using gelatin (ooh, burn!).

They look identical, as they should since the base beer is the same.
The differences start at the aroma, though. While the 007 was sweet and candy-like the aroma on this one is all hops. It's not an aggressive aroma like your IPAs - nor should it be for the style. I like the aroma on this one better in comparison.

The flavor on this one is much cleaner, too. It's like there is less muddled flavors and everything is just cleaner, almost simpler. Maybe it's the hops playing together better, or more yeast-driven....I dunno. But I agree that in comparison this is the better of the two beers.

It's got enough flavor to be interesting without pushing into IPA territory. It finishes with just a bit of malt flavor and hop flavor dancing on my tongue. Then, about 10 seconds later there is a very minor lingering bitterness. Not the kind that makes you think "this is bitter", but just enough to make you want to either take another sip or take a bite of a warm, soft pretzel. Ooh, pretzels..........

Paul, you've sent me a lot of good beers but I would rate this near or at the top. While I really like IPAs, I LOVE a good pale ale and this rocks. I'd be proud to call this one of my own. And yeah, it didn't last long!
