Tom, I'm starting to find the Mr. Beer recipes too expensive. To be honest, I may not use Brew Demon too much, either, unless and until they expand their recipes. While I like the ease and convenience of HME kits, I could easily see myself throwing some pretty good beers together with DME, some steeping grains, and hop additions. Still a quicker brew day than an AG mash, probably less expensive, and who knows? Maybe I'll come up with some keepers.

DME, steeping grains (or partial mash), and hops can make a very tasty brew. I've done several good ones this way.

I've only brewed Mr. Beer and several LME/Steeped Grains/Hops recipes. I have 9 more Mr. Beer batches on the shelf, then I will either do the LME recipes or move to the next step. I get more satisfaction doing those than the Mr. Beer recipes, and getting 53 bottles versus 22.
I have over 9,000 posts on "another forum", which means absolutely nothing. Mr. Beer January 2014 Brewer of the Month with all the pomp and circumstance that comes with it...
