Giving back - free beer

Post by Kealia »

When I kegged my last batch of Mosaic Pale Ale I ended up with a few extra bottles so I'm giving one away. To one of you.
Nothing is expected in return but you have to meet the following qualifications:

1) Live in a state that is legal to ship beer to (sorry, bpgreen)
2) You have to be interested in this beer - d'uh
3) You have to be willing to deal with a trub bottle. The few bottles I got have a lot of sediment in them. You'll likely lose a good ounce or two.
4) You have to like Mosaic hops as it's the only hop in this beer.
5) You have to be willing to give me your honest thoughts. Good or bad.

That's it. If you're interested, simply say so here. Saturday morning I'll take all the names and put them in Excel and let a random number generator pick the winner. I'll then post the winner's name and he/she will need to PM me their address for shipping.

Here's the recipe for those interested:
Batch Size (fermenter): 3.50 gal
Estimated OG: 1.057 SG
Estimated Color: 6.3 SRM
Estimated IBU: 108.8 IBUs
Boil Time: 60 Minutes

Ingredients:
------------
Amt Name Type # %/IBU
5.00 g Gypsum (Calcium Sulfate) (Mash 60.0 mins Water Agent 1 -
3.00 g Epsom Salt (MgSO4) (Mash 60.0 mins) Water Agent 2 -
3 lbs Pale Malt (2 Row) US (2.0 SRM) Grain 3 40.0 %
3 lbs Pale Malt, Maris Otter (3.0 SRM) Grain 4 40.0 %
1 lbs 8.0 oz Munich Malt (9.0 SRM) Grain 5 20.0 %
0.70 oz Mosaic [12.70 %] - Boil 60.0 min Hop 6 51.1 IBUs
0.35 oz Mosaic [12.70 %] - Boil 20.0 min Hop 7 15.5 IBUs
1.00 Items Servomyces (Boil 10.0 mins) Other 8 -
0.50 Items Whirlfloc Tablet (Boil 5.0 mins) Fining 9 -
1.50 oz Mosaic [12.70 %] - Steep/Whirlpool 30.0 Hop 10 42.1 IBUs
1.0 pkg Pacman strain (Wyeast 1764 #) Yeast 11 -
0.50 oz Mosaic [12.70 %] - Dry Hop 5.0 Days Hop 12 0.0 IBUs

Don't be thrown off by the IBU number shown. This is not an IPA. I would describe it as fruity with VERY mild bitterness. It was meant as a pale ale and not an IPA so it doesn't have a bite to it at all.

This is open to everybody - not just those that I interact with a lot. It doesn't matter if you've been here for 2 years or 2 days. Nor does it matter if you post a lot or not much at all. It'e free beer!

Let the battle begin.

Sure, I'm in. I have some shipments to (finally) make coming up as well, so you'll likely get something headed your way as well.

Jim, I send to Inkleg, too. So maybe I should revise the statement above to say "anybody comfortable receiving a shipment".

This was the first time I've used Mosaic for bittering and it lends a unique twist to the beer for sure. By offering this up, I am by no means saying it is the best beer I've ever made. I just thought it would be fun to share one.

Rayyankee, where in the sierra foothills are you? I'm in Santa Cruz.

Please go ahead and throw me in the mix!

Love Mosaic. I have no problem with trub bottles. And I love free beer.

And I got some stuff I can send your way if interested.

I will jump in, only because the only all Mosiac beer I ever made/had I wasn't such a fan of (I did not hate it, I just thought it was boring), so now I wonder if I screwed something up. I like the Mosiac + Fuggles ESB I made quite much though.
