Oh man!! So, I followed this thread from when it got started (sorry for not posting sooner, I find it hard to post using the iPad), and I have been wanting to make the granola bars. Well, I brewed this past weekend and made some! Holy Moly! They might be the best tasting granola bars I have ever had. I think I will try to make them every time I brew. I wonder if an IPA bar tastes significantly different than a Stout bar?
Also, the dog biscuit recipe looks very similar to the human bar recipe...

Re: Spent grain recipes/techniques
This may have already been brought up here but I haven't seen it,
What about rice hulls?
Ive made spent grain granola bars and dog treats but its been a while
Decided to try it again, Dried about 6 cups of spent grains and was about to start some bars and realized I have rice hulls in this batch
Is it gonna make a difference?

I doubt if it will make a big difference.dbrowning wrote:This may have already been brought up here but I haven't seen it,

Added that grain bar recipe to my new handy Brew Journal. Looking forward to trying that this weekend.

They are good, my first batch was peanut butter stout flavor! Stout grains, I did save grains from a pale ale last weekend.

Made beer today which meant it was time to try out this granola recipe. I also treated the dog to some biscuits! The mix was a bit dry and the doggie treats are breaking a bit. I think I need to add some more water when mixing to make them easier to manipulate. Did that with the bars and it seemed to work better.
Added some chocolate chips and cranberries to the bars. They looked tasty going in to the oven.

Re: Spent grain recipes/techniques
I am wondering how this recipe would work with spent grain in the place of the ground oats.

Re: Spent grain recipes/techniques
You could use spent grain to replace some of the oats, but I think you'll want to use some flour or oats. I'd probably start by using about 1 part spent grains to 3 parts flour/oat flour etc. You can add more if that works well or less if it doesn't work so well and as time goes on, you'll find the sweet spot.Gymrat wrote:I am wondering how this recipe would work with spent grain in the place of the ground oats.
