OK...I am completely unfamiliar with electric brew kettles. So I've got a few "newb" questions. I am assuming that the "S" shaped black thing in the bottom is the burner and that it would be completely submerged in wort and hop goodness during the boil. So here are a few questions:

Wouldn't the sugary, hoppy wort burn onto the element and effect the flavor?
How do you clean it when the boil is over?

I have not actually brewed with it yet. Others that are using elements for heating claim that it does not scorch the wort.

You clean it the same as you would any other kettle. There are some tricks to cleaning the element that I need to read up on.

My electric pot is set up the same way. I've never had a BJCP say anything about off favors. Nor have anyone I've sent beers to ;) said anything.
PBW and sponge handles most clean up.
The element is ULWD (Ultra Low Watt Density), it will put out a lot of heat, just slow and over a large surface.

Interesting. Do you remove the element from the pot for cleaning? Or is that a pain in the ass?

I use a small amount of PBW and bring it up to 150* for 20 minutes, and then use a blue sponge to get any crud off. drain and rinse...done. No removal of elements needed. You are gonna love it ray

I received the first pump for my setup, and tubing for boil kettle whirlpool. Ordered second kettle for HLT and got a Free Refractrometer :D. Boiling water and watching it circulate through a pump is getting boring now  . I can't wait to finish this build and get to brewing.

Almost!! Need to get the false bottom and some tubing next week. Although building this thing has been a lot of fun, I can't wait to do some brewing. I'm wondering if I even remember how to brew.

I was tired of looking at Home Depot on the water cooler so I replaced it with the Borg logo in honor of all of you! :clink:

Ready to go! I may add a hop blocker in the future and possibly hard pipe and add valves instead of making a mess with cam-locks and hoses. For now, I'm done and will go with what I got. I'm sure I will get a different chiller in the future as well.

Now I need to get my sight glasses marked, do a final boil test and figure out my loses and such. Unfortunately and Fortunately, I will be drinking beer and Enjoying Memorial weekend at camp with the family this weekend so my first brew will have to wait until next weekend.

What should I brew? I'm thinking Fat Liar or maybe a cream ale. Something refreshing and lighter for mid summer drinking. Any suggestions?
