Life got crazy again!

Post by D_Rabbit »

I feel like this comes and goes in 3-4 month cycles!! Life has once again gotten in the way of brewing.

My wife and I have been discussing relocation again. We moved to VA about 2 years ago now. We purchased a townhouse which was great for us at the time but now seems more of a PITA. We discussed it for several months and finally pulled the trigger earlier this month. We are moving again! Same area, about 40 minutes south to Culpeper VA. With that comes a full, single family house, which we are having built on about a 1/3 acre. We are completely psyched about it. With that comes a ton of meetings though for the build which has been taking up a lot of our time. We are incorporating a theater room with Bose surround sounds speakers, hopefully tiered seating, an HD projector, and a 110" screen. With that I am trying to incorporate one of the basement rooms in to a brewery so I can brew indoors from now on. I am going to have to speak with the contractor while the house is being built. If I can at least get a vent put in and the gas line plumbed in than I can work on the rest with some "free time". Move in date is scheduled for mid to late July! With this also comes getting our current house on the market and a brewing hiatus while I clean areas out and put things in to storage. I hate moving but I see this as the final move for at least 5-10 years, unless my work moves me and pays for it all :)

Also, there will be a full bar set up. Trying to figure out who I need to speak with in order to incorporate two dual tap towers built in to the bar top since the counter top will be granite I don't want to try and figure that out afterwards!

On another topic, some of you know I am a competitive bowler. I have been since my early teens. About 12 years ago I injured my leg, more exactly my groin area, while bowling. I was initially told it was a partial tear of my groin muscle and would heal on its own. Well, 12 years later and about 10-12 re-injuries of the area I finally went for an MRI which shows a torn Labrum muscle in my hip joint. The DR thinks that is the root cause of the reoccurring injury. I am supposed to start up some PT next week but that will only strengthen the muscles around it and not the torn muscle. Basically the DR stated we can't pin point the exact fix until a reoccurrence of the injury happens since he can't determine the proper procedure because I'm not showing signs of where the pain is right now. All this comes down to me needing to re-injure it and go back to the DR and say, "it hurts here!" Not looking forward to that but at this point I'm willing to do what ever I need to do to show the dr where it hurts in order to get it finally fixed! Otherwise, my competitive bowling days are done.

Pictures to follow once the house build begins. Really can't wait to have our own house and yard for the puppies..... and to be able to brew on a regular basis for more than a 6 month period!

Good luck with your rehab. PT has helped me with a dislocated shoulder and a severed tendon in my hand.
Future gatherings of the Borg should be at Rabbit's BrewPub, um, I mean new house.
Good luck with the build, try not to let it make you crazy. And post pics of your new brew room.

Never mind, there it is.

Sounds like you had little trouble talking yourself into 'moving on up'.
Good luck.

Good luck on the new venture! You will have a blank slate and you just went thru refitting a room to become your brew room, so you kind of know what you need to have and what you wish you could have or should have done with that room.

Good luck with your endeavor, be patient with a house build. You could always go with an electric brew setup, and get away from gas.

That's a lot to have on your plate, Dan. Good luck with the relocation, and with the physical problems. I'd hate to have to give up bowling; it's really my only night out, unless I decide to see my brother's band play at a local bar on a Saturday.

Hope all goes well for both Dan. I'd see if the builder has a French drain option for the brew room. ;)

This is definitely in the discussion :) We have our structural meeting this coming Saturday so I will be bringing that up :) If I can get that in than I will tile that floor. The whole brew room would be 18' x 11'. Since we are rough plumbing it for a potential bathroom there will already be a drain and water supply in the room with a vent built in as well. I love it when a plan comes together!!
