$95 for 6 gallons of homebrew?

I've seen this recipe on Beersmith's cloud for 2 years and printed it out thinking I might brew it one day. Lots of grain and hops and it does include the yeast. But wow, look at the price and it doesn't even include the Whirlfloc!

Anyone ever brew this?

I have never brewed that, but I can tell you that every "BrewBuilder" recipe on NB is jacked up in price to insane levels due to it being some kind of convenience feature. If you just get the ingredients separately it will cost 1/3rd or even 1/4th as much I'm sure.

I am guessing just over $20 at the prices I pay for all of that stuff. Try building that recipe in Beersmith using the default prices for ingredients which is usually more than I pay.

I rarely buy kits anymore and have more grain and hops already that I can brew 6-6 gallon large and hoppy brews and still have some left. I just found it strange that recipe was so expensive.

BrewBuilder was an awesome option at Brewmasters Warehouse. I used it all the time. No excess grains on hand. I'll never use it if comes at a higher price than just buying the ingredients separately.

Sounds like a good beer BL. aprox 60 12 oz bottles devided by 95 dollors = about 1.60 per bottle. a little high for home brew, but if good would be ok. But could be done cheaper if shop for the ingreadiants

With me buying in bulk and making extra large starters and saving there, I can brew that same beer for about $35-$40. Not everyone has the space (I really don't) nor brews enough to buy in bulk and I totally understand that. That's what makes this hobby so enjoyable, it can fit almost anyone's pocketbook from the poorest of us (that's me!) to you wealthy guys who are lucky enough to retire.

Ha far from the wealthy, and not luck either. Just worked out after a lot of years and now can do a few things but still pinch penny's. Brew that beer beerlord

I buy ingredients for at least two batches (a five-gallon and a 2.5 gallon) whenever I go to my LHBS. Sometimes I buy ingredients for three batches, which equals ten gallons. Even then, I don't pay that much.

Wow...that price is ridiculous. I figured about $50 for all those ingredients from my LHBS.

Cost aside, it looks like an awesome recipe, and it has a ton of great reviews on BeerSmith. Maybe it needs to be added into the never ending list of recipes to brew.

OUCH! Plus shipping on top of it. If I bought it piecemeal at LHBS it would be $48-$50, since I by the 2 Row by the sack and have a collection of specialty grains on hand, it comes out to around $37. Sounds tasty though.

Someday I'll get to retire too, I hope. Looking back at some receipts for 10 gallon batches they average out to about $85, including grain, hops and yeast. Of course hoppier beers will cost maybe $12 more than say a Kolsch and every once in a while there's a StarSan, or WhirlFloc, or O2 purchase thrown in. That comes out to about $.85 a bottle give or take, which isn't bad considering it's the freshest beer, made from the finest ingredients, yada, yada, yada.

Most of my beers come in well under a dollar a 12 oz, but sometimes [most] I forget to add in the extras like you mentioned, also things like muslin sacks, bottle caps and the occasional oxiclean and or bleach that I always have on hand and don't add that in to the final price of the beer either.

I guess I've turned into an old paddle in the Wert. I found my favorite brews, and that's all I make. I normally never go over $30 per batch. And each batch is about 6.5~7 gallons.
