That's fine. And maybe it's the cynic in me, but let's consider a few things:
Boston Beer is becoming very big. They're dancing on the ragged edge between Micro and Macro. Their competition is more the big guys than the start-ups.
Most independent start-up businesses (not just breweries) fail in the first year. He may be helping people, but he's not really creating anything that will hurt his market.
That article is about 5 years old. If he's still doing this, then that's very good. I will never say that Jim Koch doesn't care about quality beer. But I will say he's still a businessman, and he's grown so big he doesn't really need to worry about competition from a small, local brewpub.
The brewpub in my hometown has begun local distribution of bottled beer; just a couple of their mainstay brews. I think this is great, because i really want them to continue their success. But I'm also sure that they're completely under Jim Koch's radar.
You pick your battles.
Hurray! AB has a new beer coming out.
