More One Hand Brewing

Post by John Sand »

Or, My Boat is Trying to Kill Me. Some here will recall that last Spring I put a knife through my finger while on deck. After surgery, I had to do a couple of small batches using only one hand. In 2012, I fell into the cockpit dislocating my shoulder. I hadn't started brewing yet, but it reduced my other activity, especially sailing. Last week I had the boat out of water in a yard in Florida. On my first morning there, I carried two suitcases up the ladder. While at the top, the bottom of the ladder slipped out (I had forgotten to tie it). I tried to catch the deck edge, but that only delayed me an instant. From there I fell onto the ladder, which continued to the ground. I raked my shins, hit my shoulder and my face, splitting my lip. That night at the hospital, the doctor told me I'd broken a sinus bone (is that a thing?) and likely torn my rotator cuff. I see an orthopedist Wednesday. The most annoying thing about it all (next to my own foolishness) is that I had to hire painters to help. The yard manager pushed a more expensive bottom paint, telling me the one I wanted was not available in red (it is). The painter went over his estimate, and his math needed correcting. I had hoped to save money, I ended up spending twice what I had planned.
All of these injuries happened to my left arm. I'm thinking of renaming my label: The Right Hand of Clod? One Arm Brewery? Singlehanders Do It Alone? :)

You might want to trade the boat in and just get a remote controlled sail boat. Hope you get back to feeling better.

Thanks guys. If I were superstitious, I would worry. I did change the name of the boat, which is traditionally bad luck. But I have also owned it since 2008, and traveled thousands of miles in it.

Did you buy that boat from Stephen King? It seems like it's bent on killing you.

You take care, John, and heal quickly.

I saw the orthopedist today. No tear, just a small fracture that doesn't even require a cast. I do have to be careful for a few weeks, maybe only brew small batches!

Thanks Ink, I appreciate that. I do realize that as I get older I need to be more careful. I react slower and bruise quicker. :)
But I'm still going to sea again next month.

I'm sorry you have a demon boat. Maybe you need to re-christin it with a bottle of homebrew? That will teach it a lesson.

Glad your hand isn't totally trashed and will get better quick.
