Stone-taking it too far?
It's beginning to get hard for me to take Stone seriously as they just keep pushing beer out the door. That's good for a guy like me that loves more of their beers than not but now they can't even get original. Stone Enjoy By Tangerine DIPA. Yeah, I'll drink (if I can get it) and like it but c'mon, stop already.

I guess if it works, stick with it.
I don't think I've tried any "enjoy by".

Re: Stone-taking it too far?
Sometimes stuff like this results in forgetting what got them to the top. Happens all the time companies keep pushing stuff at the consumer and forget about their core business and consumers say enough already. Hope it doesn't happen to them, but maybe it's time to shift the focus back to what got them there.

For as much as I think Stone pushes it too far in many of the beers they've released lately, this one doesn't seem that way to me. At least out here (West Coast) there is a trend among breweries like Lagunitas, Ballast Point, Stone and others to use fruits - specifically citrus fruits - in their IPAs. Grapefruit Sculpin, Pineapple Sculpin, New Belgium has a beer with Tangerines, too. and Lagunitas did a Citrisiuness APA not too long ago.
I'm actually interesting in trying this one even though my last few Enjoy By experiences haven't been what I hoped they'd be.

I just bought 2 pounds each of dryed cherries and figs to rack one of my Sours onto. Am I taking it too far?

Re: Stone-taking it too far?
There is a trend now in brewing to include fruit juices in what are already considered to be citrusy beers. I don't know if it's necessarily good or bad, but a little grapefruit juice ie: Grapefruit Sculpin in an IPA seems to work.

One step away from a Lime IPA.
Re: Stone-taking it too far?
No, no, no. You put the lime in the coconut!

That actually sounds good. (the lime coconut stout). The hops chosen should work well with those things.
I've had tangerine and grapefruit infused IPAs, and although good, I don't think they were any better then just plain hop infused ones.
I refuse to buy any more Stone beer that is more then 7% ABV, so I won't be bothering to try this one though.

I'm standing here drinking the referenced version of Enjoy By and I gotta say, I like it. It drinks like a session IPA, which is a shame because I'm gonna want another one, but it's 9.4% and I've got mountains of paperwork ahead of me tonight.

Not sure if or when we'll get this in our area but I would definitely try it. Especially now that it's getting warmer.
Speaking of warmer, RUIN TEN will be out the end of May or early June, unless they've changed the schedule. Can't wait for that one. I like it so much, I literally bought the t-shirt!

That's probably the eventual end result.Pudge wrote:One step away from a Lime IPA.
When the craft beer aisle starts to resemble this, the trend will have jumped the shark.

Is it me or does that seem to be the road we're heading down?
Re: Stone-taking it too far?
I think I'm with Mashani on this one. I tend to like the the hop infused beers with the heavy citrus flavor more than the ones that use actual fruit to get there. Or maybe it's that I appreciate them more because if the brewery can get those flavors with just the hops, then they know what they are doing. And I like that!!
