Re: I am thinking (and i don't do that often)
I may have missed something. I see this thread dated May 2 and now the current thread dated May 4 which would appear to show a completed beer as a reason to modify the grain bill?

Actually it was this thread

I attempted to us Red X cut with Marris Otter for a Red Ale. But I put Aromatic into my Beer Smith calculations instead of Red X which gave me a darker result. After I brewed the beer Mashini mentioned he has never tried 3 lbs of Aromatic, which is when I caught my mistake. I ended up with a really interesting Pail Ale instead of a red ale. I am going to take another run at doing a red ale with nothing but Marris Otter and Red X malts and Fuggle hops soon.

Before I brew mine up - do you see any reason to not use 100% Red X in a beer (other than personal preference)?
I've got a brew planned for NEXT weekend (barring any issues before then) using 100% Red X.

The photo I posted is of my Red X/Cascade SMaSH. Nothing but Red X and Cascade hops and it is absolutely delicious. It converted well, 1.060 OG from 11lbs of grain, and it finished at 1.016. It actually works better than Munich as a base malt. And I think it tastes better too.Kealia wrote:Before I brew mine up - do you see any reason to not use 100% Red X in a beer (other than personal preference)?
