I had a good friend and several patients with ALS, so I am familiar with that miserable, heartbreaking disease process. I also work with stroke patients and their families on a regular basis, and it is frustrating and stressful for all involved. Having to stand up to everything at once, that's tough. Feel free to vent here. That's why the Borg is special, because sometimes the beer is secondary.

Amen to this! I've leaned on the Borg during crisis times, and was infinitely comforted. I will always gladly pay it back, pay it forward, pay it any which way I can.jimjohson wrote:Sorry to hear this Leigh, sometimes life deals us rough hands and all you can do is play the cards your given. If Coming on here and venting helps (and I know it dose) by all means do so. I know I for one don't mind. You've got friends here willing to help, even if the only real help we can offer is a friendly ear.

Leigh you can feel free to PM me anytime you like. We do get through these hard times, as painful and stressful as things may seem, things will always get better in time. My family suffered a horrible loss not so long ago, it really shook us all to the core but we've managed to get through it somehow. I hope things get better for you real soon.

Re: Life gets in the way...
Hello All,
This last 2 weeks have been very difficult for my family. We watched as ALS continued to ravage my mother-in-law's body until she just couldn't continue. On Wednesday of last week we ended up at the hospital ER where they could only keep her comfortable until her passing on Thursday morning. This last week has been an emotional rollercoaster as we prepared for her funeral this last Wednesday and said our final good byes.
I've learned several things from this whole experience. 1.) I was truly blessed to a mother-in-law that was such a wonderful woman and loved by so many in her community. 2.) My wife is an extremely strong woman (like her mother) and I thank God every day that we met. 3.) My wife and I have raise 3 amazing daughters. They have been so incredible supportive and strong through this whole ordeal and also stepped up to be a part of the service for their grandmother, one read the eulogy, another did a bible reading and the third song their Nana's favorite hymn. 4.)ALS is a sinister disease that slowly eats away at a persons physical ability until they can no longer function for themselves and it is truly heartbreaking.
Thank you all for your support and well wishes over the last few months. It is truly heart warming to have such support.

With sympathy Leigh.
This stuff hits hard. I can tell from your post that the strength and participation of many people is what helps everyone get through it. That's how it should be.

My thoughts are with you, Leigh.
ALS is the worst, no one should have to go through that.
You are fortunate to have such good, strong family for support. Feel free to lean on your extended Borg family as needed.
