Brewer's Friend Beta

Post by Beer-lord »

Although I'm a happy Beersmith user, I signed up to beta test the new version of Brewer's Friend that just came out. It's a nice alternative but I don't think it will ever be my go to recipe creator.

Anyone else sign up for the beta?

No I did not. Is that the one that used to be BrewMate? I've used BrewMate for recipe design for years.

Which program you refering to Beerlord? Brewers friend has an online based setup that is actually pretty cool but I woukdnt pay an annual fee for it. Then like Pudge said they also took over what was Brewmate. I have also used Brewmate for years and now they turned that into an updated version of windows based Brewersfriend.

Pudge you should check it out. Its just like Brewmate but with a lot of additions and upgrades. They are still working on the Brewday mode but its getting close.

Yep, I need to give it a look. I use Brewmate for recipe design and still hanging on to Promash to run my numbers. I don't think I ever knocked the dust off of Beersmith, but it is sitting here too.

It's the online version that I only toyed with a bit but this one is somewhat the same but has some differences. One that some may like (but I wouldn't use) is, after you make your recipe, you can order all the ingredients with just a few clicks. I'm not sure how Brewer's Friend is involved with the online store but I agree, I'm sticking with Beersmith but I like testing betas.
I like it so much, I test betas for lots of tech and have been for the last 15 years or so. I couldn't turn this down though I won't be in this beta long.

That's what I use for a lot of things now. It's nice because it makes it easy to share with a friend of mine who is just starting to get into brewing.

Not here either. I'm a BeerSmith user and happy but I too do like testing things out (generally speaking) if I have the time.

I used qbrew for a long time. When I first got Beersmith, it was over my head, but now I wouldn't be able to go back to qbrew for a lot of reasons (if nothing else, its inability to calculate IBUs with late extract additions, etc). I think I looked at brew mate briefly (almost left that as the autocorrect version of looked at Newmar briskly just for laughs) but saw no reason to switch.

I might look at brewers friends if it properly adjusts for elevation, but that's the only thing I think Beersmith doesn't do as well as well as I'd like.

BeerSmith Mobile on iPad here... Love it.

Does every thing I need it to do....

Want it to do a bill of materials with local pricing but it doesn't do that (yet?).

Would be nice to have it calculate cost of the brew for me...

Used to use BrewToad but it got hinky...
