X-Rated Amber
Sorry, no eye-candy. I've been thinking about what to brew with the Red-X malt I plan on ordering and I think I've settled on a recipe - at least for now. I reserve the right to change this before I brew it.

Re: X-Rated Amber
I like the Mandarina Bavarai and Nelson Mix. I'm hoping the little of NS I used in my RedX brew will be noticeable.
007 will definitely bring out some fruitiness which should work well. I opted to go clean the first time to see what it would be like and I have 2 vials of 075 Hansen yeast and I'm going to use it for the next RedX brew I do.
This should be very nice!

Re: X-Rated Amber
That looks like a tasty recipe Ron, good thing I have my ADD under control, with so many great beers posted here this week its getting harder for me to focus on my own.

That does look tasty Ron...
And to Screwy's point, do I tweak my RedX recipe or jump off in a new direction...
So may great recipes, so little time!

I feel the same way. I've come across so many good recipe here and elsewhere that I'm trying to figure out when I am going to brew them all. But, I suppose there are worse problems to have, right?ScrewyBrewer wrote:That looks like a tasty recipe Ron, good thing I have my ADD under control, with so many great beers posted here this week its getting harder for me to focus on my own.
Re: X-Rated Amber
Order placed. I'll be buying my yeast and hops locally but the grains were ordered this morning from Farmhouse Brewing and I just got an email saying it's been packed and is shipping out today. Nice.
It will likely be 2-3 weeks before I can brew this so I got the grains unmilled. I don't own a mill myself but I have friends that do that will crush them for me when I am ready.
I'll keep y'all posted. Or I'll just update this thread for myself if nobody replies. It wouldn't be the first time I ended up talking to myself....

Re: X-Rated Amber
Today's brew day went easy and I came in higher tjan planned on my OG again. I need to adjust numbers for my mash tun at this point, but no complaints.
The sample was a gorgeous red color so we'll see how the finished beer looks in a few weeks.
I need to remember to pick up some Mandarina Bavaria at dry hop time since MoreBeer was out when I went by last week. Well, they did have an 8oz bag but I don't need that much!

Re: X-Rated Amber
You see, I would have grabbed all 8 oz because I have a hop problem.
I wish mine came out that red but I'll know next Sunday when I keg it.
Nice job by the way!

Re: X-Rated Amber
I figured you would have. I'm going to go search for a clone recipe of Easy Jack. If I can find that I could see myself using them. I'm sure they will get more in the next two weeks.
I'm really happy with both the color of this beer and the efficiency I've been getting in the mash tun.

Re: X-Rated Amber
Yeah, I was happy with the color. It smelled kind of 'bready' as I was transferring it to the fermenter. Not that the hops won't come through, it was just a noticeable bready aroma from the malt. What I hope is that I used enough hops to balance it. But if not, it's been a while since I've had a good malty amber so I'll keep my fingers crossed that it's drinkable either way.
X-Rated Amber
That's exactly what I smelled last night as I added dry hops to my red.
I also noticed some of that during the boil.
Next time I'm trying some 'regular' hops that I'm familiar with but had to give Equinox a try.
Your color is definitely what I was hoping for.

Re: X-Rated Amber
Schedules being what they are, I can't get to MoreBeer this week so the Mandarina Bavaria addition is off the table.
So, I swapped that for some Simcoe - because, well....who doesn't love Simcoe, right?
So, the dry hop additions will be Nelson Sauvin, Mosaic and Simcoe.
Boom.

Anyone has a problem with that, step to the back of the line and see Vinnie later!
