Gas died again, and I have a new dilemma

Ok here is my 2 cents on the teflon tape. White tape can be used but it really is not great for gas. Use the yellow tape for your connections. You should never use tape on flared connections. it can actually inhibit a no leak situation. Some of those connections to the tank have a special nylon gasket that gets compressed to the point where it won't seal. One problem I noticed when I started having leaks, is that I was overtightening. I learned a lot being a plumber about kegging.

I'm in the unenviable position of having a CO2 distributer very near my house, but they're only open weekdays, and then only 7 am to 4 pm. This means I have to go there just before work, then carry the tank around throughout the day, to hook it up when I get home, some 8 or so hours later. I also don't care that they don't refill the tank I bring in, but bring me an already-filled tank. Time is imperative in this situation.

Last time I went in, the guy told me he's not filling them to 5 pounds, because the weather is getting warmer. Makes sense to me, and anything I lose in the long run doesn't really matter.

So far, the new tank, with the modifications to the system, is holding on pretty well.

If you are going to carry a tank around with you all day in warm weather get an ice chest to keep it in. Those are real dangerous if they heat up too much. I won't even go get a refill without a cooler in the summer time.

Thanks for the advice, Roger. What I'll probably do in the future is scoot back home and put it in the keezer, then hook it up when I get home in the evening. I should have enough time to do that and still be on time for work.

Agreed. If it weren't for this place and the previous, I wouldn't be where I am in my brewing.

Not only brewing (although the information here has made me a much better brewer), but other stuff. I wouldn't have ever known about that yellow tape, but there you are, chiming in and helping me out. And I don't know how many times I've offered free advice on pest control. It's all good, and it's all Borg.

Agreed, i never new how much being a plumber would help out in being a brewer. And some of the cooking some people do on here is amazing.

Yeah, seeing how Berryman gets his smoke on so much makes me jealous. But even though I don't barbecue as much as I'd like, I put together a really nice rub today for a pork shoulder I'm going to smoke on Tuesday. And I just finished making a large batch of my Jack Daniels barbecue sauce. Boy, that stuff will make you wish it was a beverage.
