My Boat Is Not Trying To Kill Me

Post by John Sand »

Or at least it missed some good chances. We sailed home from Florida the last two weeks, and I got no more than a few scratches. Sailing was good therapy for my shoulder.
Two days out of Boca Raton, the wind turned against us and increased. We made about 60 rough miles the third day before going into the ICW at Georgetown SC. It took a week to cover the 400 miles inside to Norfolk. (The boat only makes 6 knots under power, and one does not travel the ICW at night) One more day awaiting a fair breeze, and we sailed out for Long Island. 58 hours later we docked at the club (darling), and had a drink. We mostly had drizzle while inside, but stopped at a few marinas overnight, going out for dinner. We don't drink underway, but we brought some beer and liquor for reinforcement while anchored. I bought a few southern craft beers. Even though I'm glad to be home to my wife, bed, and hot shower, part of me misses being on board.

Never mind, there it is.

Considering what it has done to you the past year and a half or so, it was probably a good feeling to have it back at the home port.

Whatever ritual you performed to remove the demon must have worked.

Show that boat who's boss. I'm glad you had a good voyage. I hope it's a good summer on the water for you. If you get a chance, give my regards to Shelter Island.

Thanks.
Dave, I plan to do some cruising between the forks this summer. If there were a Shelter Island Beer, I'd get you some.
