Special picking!

Post by Beer-lord »

Grabbed 1 local and 1 regional beer yesterday that is in demand and 'rationed'. Never had either and both get very good reviews and are first timers.
Big DIPA is out of Hammond, LA from Gnarley Barley which puts out some good ber and about an hour away.
The Astronaut Status is from Wiseacre in Memphis, newly arrived in our area. They make my favorites, Gotta Get Up to Get Down coffee stout and Adjective Animal a rad DIPA. Astronaut Status is a barrel aged imperial stout and to have it out this time of year is something they took note of.
Can't wait to try both of these babies.

Like my hop problem, I have a problem grabbing as many beers as I can. You'd think a homebrewer could live on his brew alone but I just can't.
I admit I have a problem but don't want to change my lifestyle so I guess I'll continue having this problem until I'm 6 feet under.

^^ That's not a bad problem to have. Even with me brewing my own beer now, and learning something new every day too, there's still new beers I want to try... And then brew them for myself. ;-)

I don't consider it a problem. I'm always looking for new brands or interesting styles or variations. And I like having more bomber bottles, since I still have to bottle a 2.5g batch every so often.

My dilemma is, there's a discount liquor store right around the corner from my LHBS, so every other week, when I go to buy ingredients and supplies, I stop in and buy a couple of bombers or maybe a six-pack. Usually I look for something I'm not likely to brew myself, like a cappuccino porter, or a barleywine. It's nice to have a taste of another style without having a whole case of it in case I turn out not liking it.

Had the Big DIPA yesterday. Very good beer but not something that wowed me. The quality was there, nice aroma and a decent malt/hop balance but I was expecting more. It was fresh and I'm told, very popular so the next time I see one, I'll pick one up again and see if it's different.
Haven't had the Wiseacre yet but am looking forward to it. Nothing I've had from them has let me down.
