Inkbird ITC-308 temp controller
Hey all, I just received this temp controller from Amazon.
I believe it's basically a custom STC-1000, but it can display in *F or *C, can control both heating and coolling, and is pretty straightforward to set up (assuming you read the instructions), and it's waaaay easier and cheaper than it would be for me to make as good looking of a controller from an STC-100. It even has a mounting thing so you can stick it over a screw and hang it from wherever you like. I have mine mounted on the wall next to my kegerator.
And it's only $39! Take that, Johnson Controllers!
I've got it connected to my kegerator, keeping it at a steady 38*...I let it go up to 40* before it cools down, and I set it up for a 5" compressor delay so it's not cycling the compressor too fast (I could probably go with a lower delay, but this is my kegerator--my beer doesn't have to be 100% perfectly temp controlled).
I've got no heating attached to it, and I've got the over temp alarm set to 55*. So far, so good! I might later up the temp to 45* or so, but maybe I'll wait on that for the fall. With it being high 80s/low 90s and humid, I'm pretty damn happy with 38* beer and cider!
I'm tempted to get another one with a reptile heating mat, bypass the thermostat on my wine fridge, and have precise fermenation temp control! Buuut I'm not going to do that yet.

Re: Inkbird ITC-308 temp controller
I have the inkbird itc-1000. I'm using it for the first time on the beer I brewed on Sunday. So far so good! I'm Wondering what features the itc-308 has that the itc-1000 doesn't?
Hmmm! I took a look at the itc-308. I'm seeing the same functions as the itc-1000 but the 308 is more plug and play. I had to build a box for the 1000 and wire in receptacles. I paid 16.50 for the controller but had to buy a box, and receptacles. The 308 is sweet! I don't recall seeing those when I purchased the ITC-1000. Nice find!

Yeah, screw wiring up a project box, I'm happy to pay the extra $20 or so to have a pre-wired solution! And it's WAAAAAAY cheaper than a Johnson/Ranco, but does the same thing.RayF wrote:I have the inkbird itc-1000. I'm using it for the first time on the beer I brewed on Sunday. So far so good! I'll probably eventually get one to use for fermentation, but it's a nice upgrade to my kegerator as-is.

Nice! I'm damn happy with the one I got, though--only using it for cooling, and since I've got it cooling my kegerator, I've got it set to hold the temp between 38* and 40* with a 5 minute compressor delay.BigPapaG wrote:Hmmm, cool products, thanks for the link...

It's been working like a champ since I set it, waaay more reliable than the fridge's internal thermostat.
And the freezer section is still doing a good job of keeping my hops nice and cold!

Wish they were available (or maybe they were and I didn't know it) when I got my STC-1000 (Celsius Only Model) about a year ago...

Exact same controller I've been using to run my kegerator.
I didn't wanna have to build one either.
Very intuitive as far as programming goes, and does what it says it does.
Only thing I'm jealous of, mine cost almost $40!

Re: Inkbird ITC-308 temp controller
What a great time to be a homebrewer. As the prices continue to fall on digital temperature controllers it makes it easier to retrofit an old cabinet for use in the winter months as a fermentation chamber. The one I built is well insulated but it uses frozen water bottles for cooling and its not very practical in the warmer months. In the cooler weather though, with FermWrap laid at the bottom and when its really cold a 100 watt paint can heater too, maintaining fermentation temperature was simple.

Totally worth $40, though!teutonic terror wrote:Exact same controller I've been using to run my kegerator.

That's cool. I love my STC-1000 and it sounds like this does the same thing.
