We laid Dad to rest today

Post by FedoraDave »

It was a simple service, and yet very touching. One of his grandsons, D.L., is an ordained minister, so he presided over the service. Mom asked me to read Dad's favorite Bible passage (Proverbs 3:5,6), and D.L.'s wife, Tiffany, and their oldest daughter, Sophia, sang a duet of In The Garden, which Dad had repeatedly requested be sung at his funeral.

Interestingly, the woman Tiffany contacted last week to accompany her was nowhere to be found, and couldn't be reached, so we called an automatic at the line. My brother Ed, who also lives in town, sent his wife home to get his acoustic guitar, and our oldest brother, Alan, who is a music teacher, accompanied her on the guitar, after Ed found the charts for all the hymns on an app he has on his tablet. It was fitting, in a way, for all these family members to pitch in and make it work. Dad would have been proud.

Alan also delivered some memories and reflections on Dad's life, and it was funny, touching, and a fitting tribute.

His four sons were his pallbearers, and for all the times he carried us, it was an honor and privilege to carry him one last time.

Rest in peace, Dad. We love you.

Thoughts are with you tonite, Dave. Your dad is in a better place but it seems he leaves behind a wonderful family that can carry on his memory. Rejoice in a great, close family.

So sorry for your loss, Dave. We lost my father in law on 7/30, so I can certainly empathize.

Sounds like a good sendoff. Glad to have seen that his sons were there to send him off properly.
