Brewing part of the RCE with RayYankee doing the Märzen. Waiting on it to boil now missed by pre-boil by .002 but I also ended up with a little more liquid so it still works out to a 73% efficiency in the mash.

Brewed my own recipe at work today and it came out a bit stronger than I was looking for, but it'll still be good.

Brewed a double batch (4.26 gallons) of Darkside Wheat, some steeped grains with wheat LME and Mr. Beer Weissbier.
I have over 9,000 posts on "another forum", which means absolutely nothing. Mr. Beer January 2014 Brewer of the Month with all the pomp and circumstance that comes with it...

Sunday I bottled a 5G batch of the Simply Beer-Stout. I'll have to see how this turns out, if this one turns out pretty good, next time I may add some powered peanut butter and possibly chocolate too. I've made a oatmeal stout before so might go that route too.

I have this one sitting in a keg now. I added a few things, and some rye. The early sample was deliciously balanced with chocolate and roast. I bet it'd be good with some lactose added too.

So I bottled the "Easy French BPA" I mentioned above. I added 1oz of grapefruit peel steeped in vodka to each fermenter after primary settled. So now it's kind of a BPA/APA hybrid.

It finished at 1.003. Which is like 94% attenuation and put this at around 5.9% abv. Which means the Mangrove Jack Triple yeast is something "not quite right". As in it's probably Bella Saison or a strain very much related to it labeled as a Belgian yeast, because no normal liquid Belgian yeast does 94% attenuation unless you add a huge amount of sugar, and there wasn't that here. Only Saison liquid yeast can chew up malt extract like that. I'm fairly certain my Brett isn't in the mix, as it has no tropical funk, and never showed pellicle.

Fermentation acted like Bella (same type of Krausen, etc.). Tastes a bit tart and spicy like a Bella Saison, but some of hints of the caravienna sweetness is still there, I think the crystal malt I added is all that is left that didn't ferment out. But with the grapefruit I added because it's so dry, it's a lot more like a "west coast pale ale" then a BPA.

Which is ok. But now I know that Mangrove Jack Triple yeast is not something I want to use as an alternative to Abbaye strain, it's a very different animal.

I suppose I should have known it is Bella or Bella like Saison strain vs. a normal Belgian strain since they suggest you ferment in the 80s or > with it.

My LHBS had a "brew with a friend day"with 1/2 off your recipes if you brew there. Brewed my Citra-Nilla IPA. First time I've been able to be since July. Felt good to brew again.

Yesterday afternoon I brewed a 5G Extract w/steeping grains recipe, it was a Hobgoblin Dark English Ale clone from Jaspers. The grains and hops sure smelled good while brewing. I guess I'll know how it turned out in a few weeks. I've never tried the original but it sounded good so I thought, why not?

The original is great if you like English brown ales and can find a non-skunky fresh bottle where the esters are still there.

Some 'Mericans don't appreciate the style and/or got themselves a bottle that sat for 8 months on a store shelf, so ignore reviews about "bland blah blah".

If you like English brown ales you will like it.

I have also brewed many beers for this exact same reason. :clink: That's one of the fun things about this hobby.
Pretty sure I've brewed some clone beers that taste exactly like or nothing near to the original. :rofl:
