Hug Your Kids

Post by John Sand »

Jane and I had a sad and busy week. While sailing last Saturday, we got word that our dear friends' 25 year old son was killed in a one car accident. No one knows for sure, but the theory is that he fell asleep. He crashed on a country road at 8am, was not a drug user or drunk. The family is devastated, we are heartbroken.
If there is any bright spot, it is that the community response was amazing. People sent food every day. Hundreds turned out for the funeral, the highway was blocked off for the procession. People (including my wife) cleaned their house, organized the food, opened their homes. The local distributor sent cases of beer, flowers and fruit abounded.
I've seen too much death, and too many way too young. The only conclusion I reach is to value the good people while they are still here. So drive carefully, hug your kids, and say a prayer for Wayne, Maria, Kimberly, Rebecca and "Little" Wayne, that they find some measure of peace.

Oh my God! That is horrible news. My son will be 25 soon so this one hits close to home for me as well. There are no words. Just pure sadness.
Prayers and thoughts to all for peace!

My thoughts and prayers are with the family
"Filled with mingled cream and amber
I will drain that glass again.
Such hilarious visions clamber
Through the chambers of my brain
-- Quaintest thoughts -- Queerest fancies
Come to life and fade away;
Who cares how time advances?
I am drinking ale today."

So very sorry to hear of this. Things change in an instant so let's all try to remember the good in our lives and appreciate it before it is gone.

WOW, sobering and painfully sad. I hope they find some measure of comfort knowing their son is in a better place, but I'm sure that will take time.
